Chapter 2 - Dying Eyes

" Are you hurt?"

Alena gasped. His eyes were a rare shade of fiery gold. They locked on hers.

Kieran Donovan. The Alpha King of Corvina. The man whose beauty was a legend whispered on every lips.

And now she saw it herself. He was taller than anyone she had ever known, with inky dark hair brushing his broad shoulders, a jawline carved from stone and eyes that felt they could pull her soul inside them.

Her body froze. Every nerve trembled. She barely managed a whisper.

" I…I..m sorry! I didn't.. see you…"

Before she could finish, she bolted. Tears stung her eyes, blurring the streets as she climbed into the Uber.

Her wolf would have shifted instantly. But she had no wolf, she felt useless just as everyone thought.

If she did, she would have shifted already and ran home!

Her phone rang as she settled inside the Uber. Lura was finally returning her call.

" Alena! I'm so sorry! I heard what happened to you. They didn't have the right to…"

"Shh. I'm fine. I just…I'm going home." Her voice cracked. She ended the call and told the driver to take her to her address.

She just needed to return home, or rather call her mate.

Remembering Alpha George won't be back to their packhouse yet, he could be in his private residence working.

She couldn't wait for him to be back home, so she immediately told the driver to turn around to his private residence.

By the time she reached his door, her nails were bitten raw, her hands trembling.

There were voices leaking through the door.

Voices that weren't Alpha George's alone…there was a lady's voice too.

Her stomach dropped.

George didn't keep many friends in the pack, and there were only female like his secretary who worked for him.

But Alena couldn't say there were this close to the point of visiting his apartment.

She was tempted to knock before entering, but no, she changed her mind. It was her mate's apartment anyway, she could go in anytime without his permission.

Alena pushed through the door, the female voices became louder. Her mind instantly ran wild… could he be.. cheating?

She stepped closer, heart hammering against her chest.

Alena could feel blood rushing through her ears as she walked closer to her mates's bedroom.

When she heard laughter, " She's lucky I'm still tolerating her as my mate," The man's voice said coldly.

"Her innocence disgusts me. Soon, I will reject her and make you my Luna."

Alena was dead sure that voice belonged to her mate, Geroge.

Her chest constricted, she stumbled with a sharp pain in her ribs.

"I swear, I'm sick of her. You won't believe how our classmates mocked her today at the event. It was so fun to see."

"She is so old-fashioned, it irritates me. I'm so much better than her." The female voice mocked.

Alena thought that it sounded so much like Lura's voice.

No, it couldn't be her. Lura called her some minutes ago, she said she was still at the event… she couldn't have gotten here so suddenly?

"She was never meant to be Luna," George scoffed. " She was just convenient."

Alena heard his laughter and the sound of kisses. Her heart felt physically stabbed with a knife.

No, no, that couldn't be Lura. She wouldn't be with her mate and alone in his mate's bedroom, Lura would never stab her in the back.

Lura always protected her. She always wanted the best for her.. there was no way her boyfriend was cheating on her with Lura… it could be some other girl but please let it not be Lura!

Alena closed her eyes and pleaded it wasn't her.

She prayed her ears were only playing tricks on her?

Because she could swear the female's voice belonged to Lura!

Tears gathered in her eyes, summoning the courage to walk further to the bedroom.

She caught the two people unaware, Alena almost lost collapsed!

Tears filled her eyes as she subconsciously gripped the edge of the wall so tight, she could hardly breathe.

" No way.." she said breathlessly, her lips quivering.

Lura and George quickly jumped out of the bed, Lura grabbed the bedsheet and wrapped it around herself..

" George? " Alena lost her voice, as she looked at him with pleading pitiful eyes.

Alpha George grabbed his pants from the ground, dressing up immediately.

" Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"

Alena could see the anger and disgust in his eyes, " At least you should have knocked!" He yelled to her face, Alena's eyes closed from fear of his hands landing on her face.

Alena raised her hand to plaster it on his face. " How… could you?!"

He caught her hands midair and shoved her back.

Lura put on her dress and moved behind him. Alena's body trembled violently.

She wanted to strike, to scream, but could barely stand.

Her eyes fell on a flower vase. Instinctively, she grabbed it–but her strength failed her.

She let it drop, sobbing. " What did I do… to deserve this?"

She watched helplessly as George and Lura exchanged glances. His one hand wrapped around her protectively.

It was as though he was protecting Lura from getting hurt by her!

" What did I do to deserve this from you?" Alena was crying so hard like a baby whose heart had been helplessly broken.

She stood on her feet, her eyes clenched with pain, " You two wait and see how I expose you in the general council. The Alpha King shall hear of Alpha George infidelity!" She promised.

She won't let this break her.. no, she couldn't break in front of them. How could Lura?

Goodness, Lura was her better half!

" Alena, No, you can't do that… you know the law. We might be banished by the Alpha King… please don't do that!" Lura cried aggressively after Alena as she charged out of the bedroom.

"It will cause me my life and my entire position in the territory. How dare you threaten me!" Alpha George yelled behind her, before Alena could turn to watch him, she felt a sharp loud, pain at the back of her head.

Alena instantly saw herself crashing helplessly to the ground with a pool of blood rushing from her head.

" What… what did you do… George ..?" Her lips trembled… slowly.

Alena's dying eyes watched him holding the same flower vase she had once carried but never used..because she couldn't.. she couldn't even harm a fly.

But.. but she just watched her dearest mate used it on her.

"Alpha George… I think she's dying for real." Alena heard Lura's voice, she stood with George not even trying to come to her rescue.

"It's better she dies than expose me to the Alpha King and the council."

" If not, it will cause me everything!"

Alena heard the last unbelievable words coming from Alpha George before everything became blank… around her.
