Chapter 31 - And So The Battle Begins

Out of the shadows, large beasts emerged. Most were of beastial nature, but dotted here and there were a different breed of soldiers...

Ones that looked human

Swinging their swords, staffs, stocks, whatever they had in their hands, they stood in line, waiting, much to the horror of those who stood on the city walls:

This meant that thebone above them was one of the great leaders of the Demon Army, perhaps even...

"Oh right, forgot to mention something–

Bow down before me, puny mortals, or else perish, for the one standing before you is Seculina, the Soul King of the Four Heavenly Matriarchs

Now, please die for me...

Attack!"

With a loud roar, all the monsters, from the land-based wolves, to the air-born gryphons, all launched themselves, eager to take down the walls and feast upon the succulent flesh of the humans. Just when the defenders thought that they were cooked, a blue shield bounced back all the monsters that came forth, with some even being forced to evaporate into smoke. Seeing that the city defences had held on, everyone cheered, glad that they were still alive.

But not all of them were happy to see this result

"Tch! Damn it, can't believe I have to use this now...

Ercthelion, go and destroy that damn wall"

The huge rabble, once boisterous, split apart like the Red Sea. Gone was the cacaphony, silence reigning everywhere. Even the humanoid stopped whatever they were doing, putting their weapons on the ground.

Clink...

Clank...

Crinkle...

From the very end, a thin, lone figure is seen slowly walking, a longbow strapped behind their back. Once it had reached half a kilometre from the wall, it stopped, before taking out its bow. With one quick pull, an arrow made from light manifested itself onto the strings, and before the despairing eyes of the defenders, they shot it, causing a meteor to streak the sky, before landing onto the wall...

And in a blinding flash of light, it exploded, resulting in most of the defenders evaporating on the spot, as if a supernova had exploded right beside them. Seeing that the wall had fallen, the rabble immediately began cheering, before charging through, eager to sink their wretched claws into the succulent flesh of Man...

"Fack! This clusterfuck of a shitshow has essentially trapped us here! If we don't do anything, we'll be exposed to the public, and if that happens, we're gonna have an MK-Exposure Scenario! What to do, what to do..."

As Scaramond was seen walking back and forth in desperation, Vylara was holding back Natsuki from charging in, desperate to stop him from fucking up and revealing themselves to the world. As they were stuck in a conundrum, unable to decide what to do, an unexpected person decided to cut the knot once and for all...

"Y'know what, I agree with the young lad: we should go and help with the battle, for I sense something unpleasant mixed in with this so-called 'Army', something that evokes bad memories. Plus, I feel that they are inextricably linked with why we're sent here in the first place..."
