Chapter 28 - Bastion

"This furnace is truly miraculous," Fire Anvil said, handing a shield and sword to David.

"Adamantium items are generally extremely difficult to reverse-engineer; recasting them is very hard."

[Shield (Adamantium Plating)]

[Trait: Indestructible. This shield can withstand the vast majority of physical attacks. When the shield is broken, it will vibrate and knock away the opponent's weapon, thereby disarming them.]

The adamantium shield was dark purple all over, similar to the color scheme of a Warden.

[Iron sword (Sly Thing Blade)]

[Trait: Biological Forcefield. This Iron sword, fitted with Sly Thing Claws, inherits the original biological forcefield. Every attack that hits reduces the opponent's defense value until it reaches zero.]

[Attack Power: 7, Attack Speed: Medium]

The chicken thief sword had an iron base, with its blade featuring irregular serrated textures.

David fondled the new equipment, unable to put it down.

As for the chicken thief sword, he felt a bit of regret that it used an Iron sword base, like a flower planted in cow dung.

He felt that with such special materials, pairing them with an iron base didn't fully realize their potential.

On second thought, he would surely have more opportunities to encounter a genestealer in the future, which balanced his feelings.

"Adamantium veins are very rare." Fire Anvil wiped his tools and thought for a moment.

"If there's enough Adamantium," Fire Anvil added,

"I could try to forge a suit of heavy Adamantium plate armor. However, Adamantium is extremely dense; such armor could probably only be worn by an Ogryn."

David only heard the first half: Adamantium plate armor.

David gripped his newly acquired sword and shield, feeling full of endless energy.

He took back the tinkers construct codex handed to him by Fire Anvil. "Fire Anvil, could you still forge without this book?"

"Hmm?" Fire Anvil subconsciously reminisced. "I just saw the contents of the book, it should... wait, the memories are disappearing?"

Hearing this, David breathed a sigh of relief instead and patted Fire Anvil on the shoulder. "It's a good thing you can't remember."

In the warhammer universe, knowledge wasn't exactly a good thing. Even books, the carriers of knowledge, were strictly controlled by specialized personnel.

Dying instantly after a few glances was the best-case scenario; the worst was having one's mind silently altered, leading to betrayal.

[A great being is very interested in your tinkers construct codex.]

[Attract the attention of the remaining three beings to unlock the module: Mystic Relics.]

Again? David looked at the prompt that popped up, much calmer this time.

The first time is awkward, the second time is familiar.

With many debts, one doesn't worry; with many lice, one doesn't itch. One gaze is a look, two gazes are also a look.

David picked up the tinkers construct codex and flipped through it, discovering many strange and exotic materials.

For instance, things like a Nurgling, Angron's Butcher's Nails... and an old friend, Blackstone.

That was the black stone David couldn't dig through when he first arrived, deep underground.

His current priority was to quickly get a higher-level pickaxe.

David quickly set off, continuing toward the tunnel to push the project forward... "We're almost there. We can start digging upward now, leaving a ramp for the tanks to pass through."

Night fell once again.

At the end of the tunnel, the Surveyor rubbed his bloodshot eyes and looked at the energetic David.

"Is this guy made of iron? We support staff are about to collapse from exhaustion, yet he doesn't seem sleepy at all?" he whispered to his companion.

David didn't care about others' sentiments.

He stopped the blueprint in his hand and looked up.

This was the final section.

According to the pre-established plan, they couldn't dig straight through upon reaching the designated location beneath Pylon.

On one hand, it was to prevent the noise of digging from alerting the guards above.

On the other hand, a reconnaissance squad needed to be sent to the surface first to scout the surroundings and find the best position for the subsequent tank sortie.

"Go notify Sergeant Victor that we have reached the designated location," the Surveyor instructed his companion.

David had already pulled out his iron pickaxe and started digging upward.

Seeing this, the Surveyor emphasized again to the figures gradually emerging from the darkness behind him:

"You must stay safe. Your mission is to scout. If anything is wrong, retreat immediately."

"Understood, Comrade Surveyor. Thank you for your hard work." Hans stepped out from the shadows, having changed into a set of Cadian Carapace Armor, the scar on his face still looking gruesome.

Beside him was a small, agile figure—it was Bella.

She held her sniper rifle in her arms. "Finally, a mission. After tossing pans in the kitchen for so long, I've almost forgotten what it feels like to pull a trigger."

Then, a third figure stepped out somewhat awkwardly; it was Carmine.

She had clearly rushed there, as her hair was a bit messy.

"Medic Carmine?!" The Surveyor rubbed his eyes again.

David had already reserved a spot on the assault squad. To accommodate David, Sergeant Victor had specifically sent people he was familiar with, but this didn't include Carmine.

Carmine tossed her hair.

"There are plenty of things he didn't expect. In the past, could he have imagined we'd secretly dig a twenty-kilometer-long tunnel directly under the soles of Tyrok Bastion's feet?"

Carmine had long ago figured out a way to deal with Sergeant Victor: act first, then report—or simply don't report at all.

The Surveyor opened his mouth, sighed helplessly, and chose to compromise.

"Fine..." He nodded and gave everyone a military salute. "On behalf of the entire surveying team, I wish you a successful mission and a safe return."

Hans, Bella, and Carmine returned the salute.

"Hey, are you guys coming or not? I've almost dug to the top."

The three of them looked at each other and said no more.

Hans took the lead, followed by Bella, with Carmine bringing up the rear.
