Chapter 6 - AOE

The cracks spread as slowly as a turtle. A minute passed, and only half of it was dug.

The mining progress bar reached 90%. Just as it was about to finish, a red dot suddenly flashed across the minimap.

It was so fast that if David hadn't been focusing most of his attention on the minimap, it would have been impossible to notice.

David's movements stalled, and the cabinet door he had spent so much effort digging reverted to its original state.

Do you know the feeling of despair when you're digging obsidian with your bare hands and get ambushed at 99%?

David cursed, but his heart was on high alert.

This must be the creature ensign mentioned; it really was still on the ship.

The quality of the Cadian soldiers is a notch above ordinary interstellar PDF. Anything that could wipe them all out was definitely no ordinary opponent.

He needed to do some prep work. David pulled out a crafting table and placed it on the ground.

The three logs obtained from the bonus chest were broken down into 12 planks. Four were used for the crafting table, two for sticks, leaving six planks.

That's enough. David took five of the planks and arranged them neatly on the crafting table.

Think you're fast? Let me show you Minecraft's strongest single-target crowd control.

David continued digging at the cabinet door. Two minutes later, one door was finally smashed open, revealing the contents inside.

[Egg x3], [Grox jerky x2], [Recipe x1]

Egg yolk mixed with shells covered the cabinet. Fortunately, there were still three intact eggs.

Further inside were two pieces of grox jerky well-wrapped in waterproof cloth, with a note attached to them.

'Jackpot!'

The items in the cabinet, whether the eggs or the grox jerky, were ingredients that weren't easily obtained.

In Warhammer, chickens have long been extinct, so general eggs are all cloned.

As for grox jerky, it's made from a large farmed herbivore called a grox. Both in taste and safety, it's a major step up from antlion cans.

David took out the note next to the food. When his finger touched the note, text popped up in the chat bar.

[Mod: Warhammer Delight (Farmer's Delight Grimdark Version) unlocked]

[Obtained Recipe: Grox Sandwich]

[Grox Sandwich: provides 5 hunger bars, 6 saturation, and 30 seconds of Regeneration I]

At the same time, the recipe information flooded into David's mind.

Three wheat on top, three wheat on the bottom. In the middle from left to right: Egg, grox jerky, egg.

This recipe shared similarities with making a cake; it was considered complex for a food item.

However, it could provide strong buffs, so it was definitely worth it. This merchant ship trip had already paid for itself.

David unfolded the note; it was the menu for this dining room.

Day 1, Crew: antlion can; Captain: Fried Eggs + Bread

Day 2, Crew: antlion can; Captain: Sandwich + Recaf

'The crew eats cans every day, while all the good stuff goes to the captain, huh? Typical...'

After packing up the items in the cabinet, David looked at this cabinet with one broken side and five remaining sides, then stored it in his inventory.

It contains high-grade metal after all. It'll surely come in handy later when Tinkers Construct or Master Smithing are unlocked.

After confirming there was nothing else of value in the room, David returned to the main corridor and continued exploring forward.

Exiting the dining room, David's gaze habitually swept over the minimap. A red dot appeared at the edge of the minimap.

David didn't stop, continuing forward along the corridor while watching the red dot out of the corner of his eye.

The red dot was following him. Its goal was clear: it was coming for him!

David's muscles tensed. He naturally angled himself slightly and glanced behind him.

On the pipes, a pair of eyes glowing yellow were hidden in the darkness, spying on him.

Its senses were very sharp. David had tried his best to hide his movements, but it still noticed.

The torch in his hand flickered as a cold draft suddenly rose behind him.

In an interval of less than a heartbeat, the red dot on the map shot from the edge to right in front of David.

So fast!

There was no time for David to think.

Relying entirely on instinct, David immediately placed the item he had just crafted behind him.

It was a wooden boat.

With a muffled 'thud,' the sound of violent rocking followed, and a gust of wind brushed past the back of David's neck.

Got it! David's heart pounded wildly. Looking back, the crude boat now had a passenger.

A cat-like creature, its face full of shock, bared its teeth at David and waved its claws frantically, but it was powerless against the prey right in front of it.

It couldn't even stand, only able to crouch in the boat in a ridiculous posture.

David laughed unkindly; the pose was just too funny.

David circled the boat, carefully observing the creature.

It had 20 health, and its displayed name was [Sabre].

It looked closer to the creature known as a saber-toothed tiger in David's memory:

Sharp claws, a pair of fangs protruding from under its lips, and limbs full of bulging muscles, brimming with a sense of power.

This Sabre was also infected by the plague, and its fur had already begun to rot.

He had never heard of this creature, but that was normal. After all, the warhammer universe is so vast that no one can recognize every species.

A collar hung around the Sabre's neck, engraved with the words 'Escher's Pet'.

David pulled out his stone sword, positioned himself, and struck—one sword, two, three... At first, the Sabre aggressively tried to swat away the stone sword, but as its health got lower, it felt the fear of death as a beast.

Its aggression gradually dissipated. It lowered its head, letting out a 'purring' wail.

In the end, it actually acted like a tamed house cat, exposing its most vulnerable belly to David.

This action reminded David of his dog back home named Lord Bartholomew the III, and he couldn't help but feel a surge of sadness.

Without him, he didn't know if that silly dog could survive at home; anyway, David felt the hopes were slim.

However, David did not stop his hand. In the depths of the feline's pupils, he saw wriggling maggots.

It was parasitized. The few antlion cans in the dining room earlier were likely eaten by this little glutton.

What a pity. David swung the final blow, and it's entire body turned into a cloud of white smoke.

A grating squeaking sound came from the smoke.

Flesh-boring Worm, Health 8/8.

Three fat white worms dropped to the ground from the dissipating smoke, twisting their bodies frantically in an attempt to escape.

David neatly swung two Sweeping Edge strikes, clearing out the worms.

Colorful experience points flowed into David's body, and he successfully leveled up to level two.

[Sabre Cat Meat] x2, [Leather] x4.

The Sabre dropped normal items, but the Flesh-boring Worms dropped something novel.

[Parasitic Egg] x1

Checking with JEI, he found it was a throwable item that could infect the target with a Parasite buff for 30 seconds.

The Parasite buff existed in vanilla Minecraft, but it was relatively obscure.

The effect was that with this status, there was a 10% chance to spawn 1-2 Silverfish every time damage was taken.

A good weapon. David tucked it into his pocket.

The remaining few cabins looked like crew quarters. Aside from some clothes, there were only a few unopened bottles of drinking water.

David took out his promethium bucket and poured the water in, filling two buckets.
