Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The First Pill

The ruins were quiet, but not empty.

An Bo Tiankong walked slowly across the cracked platform. His palms still tingled from the breakthrough. Level 1, Body Tempering Stage – Mid Stage, and the faint aura around him extended farther than before. Even creatures of Level 2 Early Stage nearby would feel it.

He had felt the pulse of the world, responded to it, and survived.

But he knew instinctively: surviving wasn't enough.

The Arrival of the Pill

The old man approached, moving carefully across the rubble. In his hands was a small, square case. Black lacquer, simple, unmarked.

"Today," he said, voice low, "I'll give you the first step beyond your body."

Tiankong frowned. "Step beyond? What do you mean?"

The old man didn't answer immediately. Instead, he opened the case. Inside was a single pill, glowing faintly red.

"Spirit Condensation Pill," the old man said. "Level 1. Only enough to stabilize your aura. Not to empower. Just… refine."

Tiankong stared. A simple red pill, but the air around it felt alive. Vibrating faintly in response to his Mid Stage aura.

The old man's expression was serious. "The seal has already reacted to you. You cannot waste this. One pill. Ten drops of cultivation. That's all it will do. But it's enough to show you the difference between controlling energy and feeding it blindly."

First Taste of Pill Power

Tiankong knelt carefully. One hand hovered above the pill. His aura flickered faintly, reacting to its presence. Even at Mid Stage, the connection between his body and the pill was subtle—but noticeable.

He swallowed.

At first… nothing.

Then, warmth spread through his body, not like fire, but like water flowing into a dry vessel. His aura expanded slightly, pink strands of hair shimmering faintly. Dust trembled around him.

He could feel it immediately: the difference between forced energy and stabilized energy.

Before the pill: pulses unstable, bursts scattered.

After the pill: controlled, smooth, precise.

Even a Level 2 cultivator would notice the refinement.

This is… small, but noticeable, Tiankong thought, surprised. I can feel my aura, clearer than before.

Aura Presence Scaling

He stood, focusing. Mid Stage aura now stabilized. The ripple reached farther than yesterday, faint but undeniable.

Early Stage – Mid Sub-stage: aura visible, minor environmental reaction

Early Stage – Late Sub-stage: strong, dust swirls, nearby cracks tremble

Mid Stage – Early Sub-stage: aura extended, weak creatures feel pressure

Mid Stage – Mid Sub-stage: debris moves subtly, residual seal energy reacts

He flexed his fingers. Even a small movement caused the air to hum faintly around him.

Level 1, Mid Stage… and the world is noticing.

Minor Threat Detection

A faint movement from the cracks at the edge of the arena caught his attention.

Shadowy forms—small, twisted creatures—stirred. Level 1 Early Stage, just slightly stronger than nothing.

Normally, he wouldn't notice them. But the pill refined his perception. His aura pulsed subtly, and the shadows flinched.

They hissed, but didn't advance.

Even they know I'm different now, Tiankong realized.

First Lesson Reinforced

The old man stepped closer, voice calm but firm. "The pill doesn't make you stronger. It makes you precise. Mid Stage is about control. Pills help, but only ten times across your journey. Don't waste them."

Tiankong nodded, swallowing the rising excitement. Every small growth counted. Each pulse, each ripple, each controlled strike—it was proof he could walk a path others wouldn't survive.

The shadows receded. The arena fell silent. But he knew instinctively: the world would not remain quiet for long.

The seal had stirred. The pill had amplified his presence. And far beyond the ruins, unseen eyes were narrowing, calculating.

Internal Perspective

Tiankong's thoughts raced. One pill. One small step. And yet…

The first brush of power refinement had shown him what it meant to control aura, to sense the world, to influence things far beyond his level.

He flexed his fingers again. Dust lifted slightly. The cracks whispered faintly.

The world notices me now.

He inhaled deeply, pink hair glowing faintly in the morning sun. Every heartbeat carried awareness of the seal, of his aura, of the small creatures retreating into shadows.

This wasn't the beginning.

It was the first awakening.
