Chapter 3 - Golden sword

"No! No! No!"

"We never thought of that!"

A look of panic crossed Bella's face, and she quickly denied it.

"Then why did you want to kill me at the beginning?"

Constantine asked in return.

"Errr…"

Bella couldn't answer.

Seeing this, Constantine showed a sad expression on his face.

He walked toward Bella, knelt down, and took off his helmet, his eyes level with Bella's.

"You know, if you guys had just told me you wanted food, I wouldn't even have resisted."

"If my life can save two lives, I am willing to do that."

After finishing his words, Constantine picked up Bella's dagger that had dropped to the side and placed it into Bella's hand.

He pointed at his own neck.

"Come, Bella. Kill me. Eat my flesh, and both of you can survive."

Constantine closed his eyes and spoke with an air of righteous indignation, as if he were already prepared to sacrifice himself.

Bella had never seen anything like this before. For a moment, she felt that the man in front of her was a madman.

Her hands were shaking.

"Come, Bella. Do it when you are ready."

Three seconds later, Constantine opened one eye and immediately realised what a stupid thing he was doing.

"Oh, sorry. You're still a kid. How could I let a kid do such cruel things? Using a dagger to stab me would cause a lot of bleeding."

"It would cause you trauma."

He took the dagger from Bella and placed both of her hands on his neck.

"Apply some force. Strangle me. Do it, Bella! For you and Cassandra!"

Bella was completely stunned. She wanted to cry, but fear stopped her.

Feeling no force on his neck, Constantine decided to help her.

"Never mind, I'll help you."

Then Constantine began strangling himself while holding Bella's hands.

He stuck out his tongue, and his eyes rolled back, as if he were truly suffocating.

A few seconds later, Constantine lay on the ground.

Seeing this, Bella felt only fear and helplessness.

What was happening?

Her sister had fallen unconscious, and the crazy man had killed himself.

"Yarrrr!"

Suddenly, Constantine awoke and sat up from the ground.

"Ahhhh!"

Bella could no longer hide her fear and screamed.

The zombies gathered outside, which had originally been attracted by the gunshots, were now further drawn in by the scream.

They began moving toward the wooden house.

"Hahaha! Got you."

Constantine laughed to the side.

"Women's screams are louder than gunshots. You attracted more zombies than I did."

"Alright, no more joking."

Constantine pinched her cheek.

"Kid, you're so cute."

"Take care of your sister. I'll deal with the zombies and bring food and water back for you later."

No matter what, he would have to face the zombies if he wanted to leave the house.

Gathering them together made things slightly more troublesome, but not much different.

Constantine still hadn't gotten his system yet.

How could a novel's main character not have a system?

It had to be something like how he activated his necklace. He needed to do something specific to trigger it.

Most main characters obtained their system after killing their first monster, zombie, or whatever enemy they encountered.

Constantine hoped and believed that it would work the same way for him.

But he had already killed a few earlier, and nothing had happened.

He believed it was either a quantity issue or some hidden mission he needed to complete to activate it.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Constantine walked to the window and shot a few zombies close to it. They couldn't get inside anyway. The iron bars blocked them.

With several zombies falling, he finally got a chance to see what was behind them.

Constantine frowned.

The environment here looks just like a typical undead land in movies or novels.

Trees are dead and burned, and the land also remained black, except that there is still sunlight.

All he could see were endless zombies. At least a thousand.

Did he have to clear all of them?

It was a zombie horde.

If he had unlimited ammunition, killing them all wouldn't be a problem.

These zombies were slow and clumsy, nothing like the agile and fast ones from World War Z.

The only similarity was that they could only be killed by destroying their heads.

Here lay the problem.

He only had three hundred rounds of ammunition.

Constantine looked at his necklace. The red light was almost gone.

He didn't dare gamble on how many more times he could teleport.

No matter what, he had to find a way to recharge the necklace today.

How could he kill zombies without using a gun?

One minute later, he slapped himself.

"I'm such an idiot. The necklace already hinted at using a sword. Why didn't I think of it earlier?"

There was a sword belonging to a mage in the house.

Under normal circumstances, close combat with zombies would be dangerous. One bite could mean death.

But this wasn't normal circumstances. Constantine was wearing a full set of heavy armour, harder than zombie teeth.

However, using a sword to kill zombies introduced another problem, his stamina would be quickly exhausted.

After another ten seconds of thought, Constantine decided this wouldn't be an issue.

His main objective was to find a way to recharge the necklace. If killing zombies didn't activate his system or recharge it, then he would fight his way out and explore the world first.

"Alright, that's the plan."

Constantine walked back to Cassandra and picked up her sword.

The sword's shape resembled that of a Western knight's sword.

Except it was made of gold, and strange patterns covered its surface.

Elemental power.

That was the first thing that came to his mind.

"You guys must be princesses from some random kingdom."

"Were you framed, and that's why you're here?"

Constantine said casually to Bella.

He even imagined an entire story of power struggles among the kingdom's nobles.

Bella listened in stunned silence.

She looked at Constantine and realised he was inspecting the sword.

"Why would you say that?"

She asked carefully.

"I mean, who the fuck would use gold to make a weapon? Your sister's sword is made of gold, and your dagger is also made of gold."
