Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 - Cubone: Big Brother Is Amazing!

Fuyuki suddenly realized something and quickly turned around.

Just as expected, Entei was standing there, watching this direction with a dignified, imposing gaze.

When Fuyuki looked back, that gaze slowly settled on him.

"I want to talk to them," Fuyuki said. "Entei, don't scare them."

The legendary beast gave a small nod, then added with clear concern, "Don't go too far from me."

"Mm!" Fuyuki nodded hard. When he saw Entei resume picking Berries, he finally turned back and began looking around for wild Pokemon nearby.

Just then, a faint rustling came from a patch of grass not far away.

Is it a Pokemon?

Fuyuki immediately looked over.

A moment later, a small figure pushed its way out of the grass.

It looked like a tiny dinosaur, wearing a skull helmet on its head and holding a bone club as a weapon.

It seemed to have been chasing butterflies in the grass.

Fuyuki saw an ordinary butterfly get startled and flap away in a panic.

The little Pokemon popped its head out of the grass, several stray blades stuck to its helmet.

At first, it was about to keep chasing the butterfly, but soon it noticed Fuyuki standing nearby.

Its eyes lit up instantly.

"Cu… Cubone?" Fuyuki said, stumbling a bit over the unfamiliar pronunciation.

That's right. This Cubone was the same one that had nearly choked on a Berry pit last autumn.

Seeing him again, Cubone became visibly excited and jumped straight out of the grass.

Clearly, it recognized him too.

"Cubone!" Cubone's voice sounded rough, almost like sand grinding together.

"Long time no see, Cubone!" Fuyuki greeted it carefully. "Where's your mom?"

Of course, the whole exchange was in Pokemon language.

Cubone understood him immediately and replied happily, "Cu-bone!"

(Mom's in the nest. I came out to play!)

Fuyuki watched Cubone's tone and expressions nervously. Thinking back on what Entei had taught him, he felt a jolt of shock.

He really understood what Cubone was saying.

Cubone was overjoyed to see the human child again. It still remembered how it had been saved back then, all because of him.

That memory filled it with gratitude.

"Cubone!"

(You're good!)

Its eyes shimmered with emotion.

Fuyuki understood right away. This wasn't a greeting. Cubone was saying he was a good person.

He broke into a grin. This Cubone was pretty cute.

Noticing what Cubone had been doing earlier, he asked curiously, "Were you trying to catch butterflies just now?"

Cubone turned to look where the butterfly had been and nodded. "Bone!"

(Play!)

As if to demonstrate, it lunged toward another butterfly.

Before it even got close, the butterfly was startled and fluttered away.

Cubone scratched its head, clearly disappointed.

"Cubone..."

Fuyuki fell silent for a moment.

"That's not how you catch butterflies." He shook his head. "Watch me."

He began to show Cubone how it was done.

After scanning the area, he spotted a blue butterfly resting on a flower.

He slowed his steps and crept closer, moving carefully, slowly enough not to disturb it.

Once he was close enough, he suddenly brought his hands together.

Cubone's eyes went wide.

Fuyuki walked back over and carefully opened his palms.

The butterfly was trapped inside.

"See? Caught it!" he said proudly.

Cubone stared at the butterfly, excitement bursting in its eyes.

"Cubone!"

So… so amazing!

[You caught a butterfly in one try. Cubone is extremely shocked!]

[Shock Points from Cubone +20!]

[Current balance: 185!]

Huh?

Fuyuki paused.

Seeing Cubone staring at him with pure shock and admiration, he smiled and gently released the butterfly.

Startled, it flapped its wings wildly and flew off.

Cubone couldn't help looking up after it.

At that moment, Entei finished gathering the Berries. Holding the large leaf full of fruit in its mouth, it walked over and said,

"It's time to head back, Little One."

Just then, Cubone's mother, Marowak, arrived as well.

"Bone..."

Cubone looked reluctant to part.

"We'll play again tomorrow!" Fuyuki said.

Cubone's eyes lit up once more.

"Cubone!"

After testing the power of Pokemon language, Fuyuki felt thrilled beyond words.

From now on, just like N, he could understand what Pokemon were saying.

Riding on Entei's back, he headed back toward the cave with it.

Halfway up the mountain, the large leaf holding the Berries finally gave out under the weight and tore with a rip.

In the next second, round Berries spilled out and rolled down the mountain path.

Seeing this, Entei frowned slightly.

"Looks like I'll need to find another leaf," it thought.

But Fuyuki was thinking about something else.

Just as he suspected… relying on leaves to carry Berries was too unreliable.

In situations like this, a basket would be much more practical.

With that thought, his mind stirred, and the shop interface appeared before his eyes.

Search [basket].

In an instant, the interface changed completely.

[Woven Basket: A common basket for storing items and easy carrying. Cost: 30 Shock Points.]

[Storage Basket: A container used to store items such as Berries and vegetables. Cost: 30 Shock Points.]

"…"

He needed one with a handle so Entei could carry it by biting the handle.

Thankfully, he had saved up quite a few Shock Points by now.

He had planned to use them to buy proper clothes, but daily necessities were clearly more important.

"Entei, this will help you!"

As soon as he spoke, a woven basket appeared out of thin air in front of Entei.

It froze for a moment, then quickly understood. The Little One was using that strange power again.

At this point, Entei was already used to it. After learning that it wouldn't harm him, it simply let him be.

Entei picked up the fallen Berries from the path, placed them into the basket, then bit down on the handle and continued toward the cave.

But before it could get close, it sensed a familiar presence at the cave entrance from afar.

Raikou had returned.
