Silas's POV

My mind felt like it was drowning in static. Every thought crashed into the next, making it impossible to focus on anything except the need to see her. The silence between us from our last conversation kept replaying, along with the way her voice had sounded so distant, so final.

The drive seemed endless despite the light traffic. My fingers drummed against my leg in an anxious rhythm I couldn't control. Every red light felt like an eternity, every slow-moving car an obstacle keeping me from answers I desperately needed.

When we finally reached her building, I was out of the car before Felix could even turn off the engine. I took the stairs three at a time, my heart hammering against my ribs. The hallway stretched before me, eerily quiet except for muffled television sounds bleeding through thin walls.

I knocked once. Twice. Then harder, my knuckles stinging against the wooden door.

Nothing.
