Silas's POV
Weeks had passed since I last set foot in the house I once called home. The distance suited me perfectly, and I had grown comfortable with the arrangement. Vesta's absence had become a welcome relief, especially after witnessing her in such a compromising position that night. I had assumed she would finally stay away for good, and frankly, I would have preferred it that way. Today, however, that fragile sense of peace crumbled entirely.
The office door swung open without warning, and Vesta waltzed in as if she still belonged there, as if she retained any right to stand before me after her betrayal. I froze momentarily, observing her as she adjusted her designer bag strap and fixed me with that pitiful expression that might have swayed me years ago. She was performing again, playing the role of the devoted wife.
