Chapter 39 - 38. Gwen

Draven is waiting for me the second I walk inside.

He's still in his wedding suit, the jacket hanging askew off the back of my couch. A patch of blood stains the stripped blue shirt and his hair is beyond disheveled, dark circles lining the under of his eyes.

The second the door creaks, he is across the hall, pulling me into his arms. "I looked everywhere," he breathes into my hair. "When I couldn't find you, I—gods." He shakes his head and peppers my face with soft kisses, fingers drifting down my frame, looking for injuries. "Are you hurt? Did he hurt you anywhere?"

"No—"

He pauses when his thumb strokes my bloodied knuckles and he pulls back, amber eyes darkened. "What happened?"

I take my hand from his, feeling the weight of the entire day slam down on my shoulders at once. "I hit him."

Draven draws back. "How… how are you here?"

"He brought me back," I say, kicking off my heels. It's dark outside. I have no idea how many hours have passed since Ruin abducted me.
