Chapter 1 - Shiryu's nightmare

In a bedroom with a wall clock that showed 5am.

"Ugh, no... Run... Run!"

A boy with short red hair and fair skin woke up from his sleep, sweat pouring down his back and his expression not very good.

Why?

He had a nightmare.

In the dream, a plague or virus spread from a laboratory in Japan.

He knew that because the dream was so vivid as if it was real, he even still remembered the conversation of the people speaking in Japanese.

So, it must have happened in his country.

At first a scientist was observing a chimpanzee whose eyes were red and who was banging on bulletproof glass very aggressively.

The chimpanzee didn't seem normal, even though the cage it was confined in was very strong, its crazy behavior would scare most people.

And not just one, there were quite a few other chimpanzees caged in every corner of the room.

However, the scientist seemed calm and continued to observe the chimpanzee in front of him. At least until a group of people in black uniforms barged into the laboratory.

"Oh my... They are being tortured, we must free them and report these evil scientists." Said a woman in the group.

They seemed to be animal rights activists. Before breaking into the room, they had seen how some scientists were abusing chimpanzees on a monitor.

Or rather, the animals were being used as objects of experimentation.

"Quickly open the cage!"

The group leader ordered his colleagues. They prepared to do so with crowbars and other tools to dismantle the cage.

"Stop! Don't touch them, they're dangerous!" The scientist shouted.

By then, one of the activists had pressed his body against the wall.

"Dangerous? It's people like you who are dangerous! We're here to save them. What you're doing to these animals is cruel!"

"You don't understand. These symbionts are infected with a dangerous virus!"

The scientist tried to stop the activists, but he was powerless.

Incidentally, the other scientists were away so there was no one to help him stop what these people were doing.

"Virus?" An activist who was pressing the scientist smiled mockingly, "You're just making excuses."

"This is serious! They're carrying an infection we call Rage. It's highly contagious. Just one bite can make—"

"Shut up!" The activist interrupted him, "We will not stand by and watch animals being tortured. Let them go!"

He urged the other activists.

"Noooo!" The scientist shouted with a terrified expression, especially when he saw the chimpanzee cage in front of him being opened by a female activist.

At that moment, the chimpanzee with red eyes lunged at her and bit her neck.

"Aghhh! It hurts! Help me!"

"Damn, what's wrong with this chimpanzee!"

"It's over... You must kill the woman and the chimpanzee immediately." The scientist said but his face was immediately slapped.

"Mad scientist. I said shut up! How could we kill one of our colleagues?"

Two activists tried to release the chimpanzee that was biting their colleague. But the chimp also started lunging at one of them.

"F*ck! Ahhh!"

"Hoshi, I'll help you! Huh? Hana, what are you..."

The woman who was previously bitten by the chimpanzee hugged her partner from behind and bit his neck.

Unlike before, her eyes were now red and veins stood out on her very pale skin.

She was clearly infected with the so-called Rage virus.

"Agggh! Agggh!"

Another scream of pain rang out.

The chimpanzee that had bitten two people jumped to the other side of the room and broke every piece of glass that confined the other chimpanzees.

For whatever reason, its physical strength seemed to have become stronger.

What followed was a massacre, the animals and the humans infected with the virus killed the remaining people in the lab.

They tore apart, bit and spewed a lot of dark red liquid from their mouths onto the victim's face.

Within seconds, the person exposed to the liquid is also infected and transformed.

The scene then traveled to a town, infected people were running in the streets and many people were fleeing out of fear.

From town to town, and then a whole country was in chaos. Those scenes are the kind of scenes that usually only exist in zombie movies.

Do you know Resident Evil and World War Z? It's something like that.

"It's okay... It was just a dream." The boy sitting on the bed said.

He comforted himself.

His name was Sou Shiryu, Sou was his surname and Shiryu was his first name.

This year, he was 15 years old and had just become a high school student about two weeks ago.

Today was Monday, he of course had to go to school.

But before he went to the bathroom to take a shower— a gold-colored virtual screen with white text appeared in front of his eyes.

[Morning host.]

"???"

An emotionless female voice also sounded in his head.

Shiryu wondered if he was hallucinating or had he not woken up from his dream yet?

[You are not hallucinating and what you just watched is the future that will happen within 28 hours from now.]

"...!"

Hearing this, he was surprised of course but also even more confused.

[By the way, I am your system. Sorry for my 15 year delay, there were some technical problems that occurred that made it difficult for me to activate myself.]

"You're my system?!"

At this moment, Shiryu suddenly remembered that he was a Reincarnator. This was his second life.

It wasn't that he had lost his memory or anything, but he had completely forgotten because during these 15 years, he had lived a normal life even though he had seen many of the anime characters he had watched in his previous life come to life in this world, he had even interacted with some of them.

In years past, he would have wished that people like him had golden fingers like System.

But because of System's tardiness, he had forgotten about such things and relied on herself to achieve the success he had gained to date.

Before Sistem came and said good morning, Shiryu was relieved that he at least remembered the many ACGs (Anime, Comics and Games) that he had enjoyed in his previous life.

With that knowledge, he did the clichéd thing that Fanfic protagonists do. He made money by writing novels— I mean copying the works in his previous life shamelessly and made billions of yen.

So even though his parents had died in a plane crash when he was seven years old, he was able to support himself well.

[Yes, I am. My official name is "Diary System".]

[As long as you write down every single thing that happens around you especially about the characters you knew in your previous life, depending on the number of words you can fulfill each day and the quality of the content, you will get random rewards.]

[Those random rewards can be items and skills of normal and super classes.]

After the System said that, a diary appeared out of thin air and floated in front of Shiryu. The cover of the book was black with his own name written on it, and it was the same thickness as his school's English textbook.

It was not thick but not too thin either.

Seen from anywhere, it was like a normal diary.

Still, what the system said made his eyes light up.

"Isn't this easy? I just need to write and get rewards?"

[I love your confidence but host, you can't just write randomly just to reach a word count that allows you to get rewards.]

[The quality of the content is also important and if it doesn't meet the requirements, everything you write won't earn you rewards.]

"When you say that... You sound like my editor."

As a novelist, Shiryu certainly had an editor in charge of some of his works so far.

He always had to get her approval on things that could not be written and things that he had to change.

In other words, it would probably be quite inconvenient.

However, did he have a choice but to cooperate with his system?

If what happened in his dream was the future that would happen within 28 hours from now, he had to prepare and utilize his time to gain some rewards such as super abilities.

He himself was not confident that he could fight a group of aggressive people who were trying to bite him and could infect him with their blood.

To be honest, it was scary.

"This is bad! Is there any way to stop the plague from spreading in the first place? Wait..."

Shiryu suddenly thought of stopping the activists from attacking the laboratory, as long as they did not release the chimpanzees from their cages, the Rage virus would not spread uncontrollably either.

[Host, do you know where the laboratory is located?]

"No... You are the System, shouldn't you know? You made me see the future."

[What you said makes sense. Unfortunately I don't know either. And you misunderstand, you can see the future not because of me, but because of the super ability you got as compensation for me being 15 years late.]

"...Oh, I want to hear the details about my super ability."

Shiryu was initially disappointed at not being able to stop the spread of the plague from its source directly

But soon, he was excited because he had the super ability to see the future?!

[That is Clairvoyance (Passive).]

[Description: The ability to perfectly perceive and observe the world around us; objects, people, locations, events, with our minds, without error and 100% accuracy. But it can only be triggered randomly because it is passive.]

"My first super ability is Clairvoyance? Awesome, even though it's passive, I'm at least able to see the future and prevent bad things from happening as long as I'm able to do so."

Shiryu was not disappointed, instead he felt a little more secure about the future he would face after 28 hours.

Afterwards, he asked the system about the details of his diary. Apparently, the system also gave him a pen with unlimited ink to write with.

And although the diary was quite thick, the paper was unlimited so he also didn't have to worry about running out of space for his writing in the future.

But one thing really caught his attention.

It was the information that the heroines in this world would have copies of his diary.

"Come to think of it, I remember some fanfic with a diary system that I read in a previous life had something similar."

Shiryu's expression became strange, he was somewhat worried about his privacy but since the System told him at the beginning and did not try to keep it a secret.

He could at least regulate what the heroines who had copies of his diary were allowed to know, and not have to worry.

...

In a traditional Japanese-style house that happened to be located quite close to Shiryu's home.

In her family's private Dojo, a beautiful girl with purple hair had just finished her morning training and was preparing to take a shower before having breakfast and leaving for school.

She undid her hair tie, letting her long ponytail-style hair down. But before she took off her training uniform and exposed her voluptuous figure in front of the bathroom door.

"Hm? This..."

Saeko Busujima found a book with the name "Copy of Sou Shiryu's Diary" written on the cover.

It was lying on top of the clothes basket she was going to use to store her clothes.

"It looks like a diary, but why is it here?"

She picked it up and did not open it as she respected the privacy of others.

Even so, the diary in her hand suddenly opened by itself and floated in front of her.

Saeko became alert and stepped back.

She rubbed her eyes as she was worried about hallucinating, but the diary was still floating in front of her.

Was it a ghost?

She wondered in her heart.

Saeko wasn't afraid of ghosts, so she approached the diary in front of her boldly and looked at the words magically written inside.

[In 28 hours, a virus will spread to the people in this country and turn people into so aggressive, bloodthirsty and eager to kill those who have not been infected.]

[They can be called zombies, but they move faster than zombies in movies and are scary!]

[In one bite or their blood entering your body just a little bit, you will turn into them in just a few seconds.]

[I have seen them myself in my future vision. I want to tell others about this so they can be prepared, but who will believe it? People will think I'm crazy and suffering from eighth grade syndrome at my age.]

"Now I also think you're suffering from eighth grade syndrome..." Saeko said with a flat expression.

In Japan, the disease is called Chuunibyou.

How could one possibly see the future?

Those creatures called zombies didn't exist either, they only existed in movies or other works of fiction.

But then, she realized a fact, the diary in front of her could levitate and write by itself, that was definitely abnormal!

So there was a possibility that what Shiryu wrote was true.

Saeko frowned, she held the diary in front of her again and continued reading.

[So rather than making myself look ridiculous. I chose to write everything I knew in the diary. According to an entity that gives me foresight, or rather clairvoyance.]

[I can tell certain people in this world about what I know and make them trust my words more.]

[Not only that, there are also benefits for myself because as long as I diligently write in the diary, I can get various rewards.]

[I feel that it's a bit unfavorable to let other people read my diary. But it's quite fair and worth the benefits I get.]

[Imagine if I had a super ability that could make me able to defeat a group of infected people easily, I could protect myself or others better in the future.]

"An entity that gives superpowers like Clairvoyance... and will give you other rewards as long as you diligently write in a diary..."

"Really? Isn't this a cheat code or something?"

Saeko didn't like playing games, but she still knew the terms to describe people like Shiryu.

"Still, Shiryu-kun seems to know there are other people reading his diary, but doesn't know exactly who they are and doesn't care about it."

"And it seems that it's not just me, there are also other selected people who get copies of his diary."

She wasn't too smart, but she wasn't too stupid to reach a conclusion like the one she was saying.

Even so, she was starting to get a little anxious. After 28 hours, the country or perhaps the world she lived in would change because of a virus that spread and made many people into zombies.

At that time, the situation would be very chaotic and bloodshed was not in doubt. People would kill each other, and she would have no choice but to kill to survive.

Saeko thought that but if she looked in the mirror, she would see herself smiling as if she was excited.

But only for a moment, before she shook her head and her expression returned to normal.

"For now, I have to tell my father about..."

She didn't finish her words because as she thought about telling her father about the contents of Shiryu's diary, and persuading him to prepare for the worst.

Her voice choked, a chill ran down her spine and there was a sensation like a hand grasping her heart, which frightened her.

Cold sweat dripped down Saeko's beautiful face, the droplets flowed down her slender neck and slowly into the cleavage of her breasts.

The scene was erotic, many men out there including Shiryu would gulp. Saeko was so beautiful and sexy!

"I can't seem to tell anyone else? Is it because of the entity Shiryu-kun mentioned?"

"I see. There is such a rule."

In other words, she couldn't tell her father or anyone else about the contents of Shiryu's diary.

Or even the existence of the diary. Otherwise, Saeko knew her heart would probably be crushed and she would die!

She felt uncomfortable because could she only prepare for disaster alone?

In this situation, she might have to immediately meet Shiryu and cooperate with him!

With a person who had such a cheat code, she at least had a reliable partner.

"Still, where can I find him?"

At this moment, Shiryu happened to be writing again in his diary.

What surprised Saeko was...

[After bathing and having breakfast, it's time for me to go to school. Many of you might be confused as to why I'm not doing something useful like preparing for an impending disaster.]

[I originally wanted to do that, but this diary requires me to write interesting things around me especially about selected people so that my chances of getting rewards are higher.]

[I still have to go to my school, Tokyo Metropolitan Academy because there are many people I find interesting to talk about.]

The heroines: "....."

You mean you want to gossip about us for rewards, Shiryu?

That's a bit rude.

However, Saeko's eyes lit up because she also attended Tokyo Metropolitan Academy and was a third-year student there.
