Chapter 26 - Meeting the protagonist I

"Oh for the love of the heavens… screw me."

Azazel woke up with a slight headache.

As soon as he had fallen unconscious in whatever dream he had been lost in, his body had stirred awake.

Sunlight filtered through the curtains of his temporary residence, casting its glow in the room with blinding brilliance.

That alone told Azazel that it was noon.

Just the day earlier, he'd paid for a room to reside in alongside Lily —his exclusive maid, the contractor of Lilith, mother of demons — for just a few days, at least until the academy exams were concluded.

Naturally being the benevolent young master he was, he'd gracefully gifted the couch to Lily.

Well he wasn't to blame, I mean he couldn't expect the succubus contractor to not attempt anything while sharing a bed with her.

He didn't even want to take that risk, Lily was bat shit crazy if you were ever unfortunate enough to unlock that possessive side of hers.

'At least I don't have to worry about that.' he thought with relief.

Poor bastard, who was going to tell him?

After using more strength than usual just to sit up, he let out an exhausted sigh.

He'd slept yet he felt tired, extremely tired in fact.

It seemed the night's rest wasn't sufficient enough to cover the fatigue from the three days of keeping awake.

But more importantly.

"That dream…" He muttered with a frown.

He felt it, what he saw wasn't a dream, it was a memory.

A memory of himself but not himself.

He was Azazel, but before that he used to have a name, however no matter how he tried to remember, he couldn't.

He was painfully aware that he had a past life before this, and more importantly he suspected that the faceless figure from the dream he'd just woken up from was undoubtedly him, or the past version of him.

He could recall most things, he had a friend who betrayed him, he'd died in an unfortunate yet unnatural accident while being chased by loan sharks.

Everything… he remembered everything.

Including the game.

His lips drew into a thin line, brows knitted in worry.

"That's right… the game."

He couldn't still believe what he'd seen, because if what he'd seen was indeed true, then they were finished, beyond finished in fact.

The fate that awaited them all was one of utter despair.

Just thinking of it alone made him shudder in fear.

But that wasn't his problem to handle, that belonged to the protagonist, Azazel's job was merely to guide the late bloomer into awakening and making proper use of his abilities this time around.

Still something about that dream deeply unsettled him.

If he recalled correctly, it asked him to progress deeper into the story to unlock the hidden truths.

Now, he didn't know what truths the system held but somehow, his gut was telling him that whatever truth it was, was a crucial piece into solving one of his major problems.

Speaking of major problems.

Azazel had a list of them.

The princess who somehow knew of transmigration or possession.

He still couldn't tell how she found out.

As unsettling as her role was, it was her words that got him truly rattled.

She'd mention something along this line.

"Who possessed the body this time." Such were her words before donning the irrelevant character façade she'd been wearing since the beginning of the trail.

Her words held a clue.

From what Azazel could understand then, it seemed like he wasn't the only one who'd possessed the body previously.

He didn't dwell on the thought for a long time, because he was going to deal with that later.

Right now Azazel was starving.

His gaze snapped towards the side hoping to see his maid working diligently around their temporary residence but to his surprise, he found no one.

Instead his hands moved across the bed before stopping with a jolt.

His hand had rested on none other than the sleeping maid he was desperately searching for.

The most dangerous part was that his hand had accidentally brushed her bare skin, causing a subtle moan to escape her lips.

Azazel froze, the blood leaving his face as his own teenage body reactions stirred awake.

"Ah… this girl will be the death of me." He said lifelessly.

Then slumped back into the soft mattress, his body devoid of strength.

Azazel took his sweet time reading through the evolved blessing.

His gaze darkened for the shortest second but his expression flickered back to its usual carefree façade.

After knocking some sense into his servant about the negative effects sleeping on a guy's bed unguarded, he'd gone to freshen up.

The water system was a bit different from the one at the Dukedom, it was… a bit more advanced you could say but it was possible.

Because they were in Nexus academy's city.

An academy which was easily as large as a city, with residential buildings over there, work… and pretty much everything a student needed to survive.

His gaze wandered to the see more option on his soul mirror which he clicked right away.

The figures on the translucent suddenly changed, giving form to new characters.

He watched his stats with an expressionless face, then clicked his tongue.

"I still have a long way to go."

While his stats were magnificent for his level and tier, he needed to get stronger.

Not just him but for the sake of the world.

If only he was motivated by that alone, but he wasn't, Azazel was selfish.

He was only assisting to ensure the safety of his family and for that he needed strength.

To hell with saving the world, he would only assist from the sidelines.

The fate of protecting the world fell on someone else's shoulder.

With a subtle motion he dismissed his soul Mirror, then stared out the window.

"It's about time we met, Elias Jerome Evangelion."

He licked his lips in wicked movements before smiling like a madman.

"It's about time indeed."
