Chapter 3 - Shadows of the Past

The night had grown colder as Caleb hurried down the rain-slicked streets with Evelyn close behind, clutching the letter like a fragile lifeline. The city had transformed into a maze of shadows, each alleyway whispering secrets neither of them were ready to face.

Caleb's phone buzzed again-this time a text message: "Trust no one. Meet at the docks. Midnight."No sender.

"What does this mean?" Evelyn asked, breath misting in the chilly air.

Caleb's jaw tightened. "It's a warning. Whoever sent this wants to keep us apart... or worse."

They reached the docks, the mist rolling off the water in thick waves. The moon hung low, casting a pale light over crates and abandoned boats. An eerie silence stretched across the pier.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows-a woman draped in a dark cloak. Her voice was soft but commanding. "Caleb Draven. You should not have come."

Evelyn instinctively stepped closer to Caleb, heart pounding. "Who are you?"

The woman's eyes flickered with something unreadable. "I am the Oracle."

Caleb's face paled. "You were supposed to protect us."

The Oracle nodded, a sad smile playing on her lips. "I protect the balance. But some truths are dangerous, even to those who seek them."

Evelyn's grip on the letter tightened. "What truths? What are you hiding from me?"

The Oracle stepped forward, the moonlight catching the silver amulet around her neck. "The Draven bloodline carries a curse-one that binds them to a power they barely understand. Your family's enemies will stop at nothing to control it."

Caleb's eyes burned with determination. "Then we fight. Together."

The Oracle's gaze softened, but her tone was grave. "Be warned. The path you choose will demand everything."

Before they could respond, a sharp noise shattered the stillness-a gunshot echoed across the water. Chaos erupted as figures emerged, cloaked men moving fast and silent.

Caleb pushed Evelyn behind a crate, pulling a small pistol from his coat. "Stay close. We need to get out of here."

The chase was on.
