Chapter 5 - Untraceable

"Is everyone back in their seats?" the announcer called out. "I sure hope so because the second match between two high classes is about to begin, and you definitely don't want to miss a single millisecond! The two contestants for this fight are Arashi Nakamura, our final competitor from Japan, and Luis Santiago from Mexico! They wield the Spark and Optic attributes, respectively."

I give Luis a bow, and he does so back. We walk onto the platform as I pull out a simple katana and examine it for any dents to make sure it will function properly for the fight. While Luis slings a bag containing an array of different blades, blunt, and ranged weapons across his back.

"Ready, get set, and fight!"

I bring my blade up to my chest, folding my arms in to do so, the sharp end of the katana facing away from my body. I planted my feet firmly on the ground so hard the platform cracked slightly before I launched myself off the ground and threw myself headfirst toward Luis, who sidestepped my blunt strike and prepared to bring a switchblade down on my back, but I dropped low and swept his legs out from under him. He gets up rather quickly, foiling my attempt at a first attack and forces me backwards with multiple swings. I leap back and dart around the stadium opposite Luis. I reposition myself to go in for a strike, but Luis is quicker, dashing close and almost getting the drop on me as he diverts from his switchblade and swaps to a more blunt force weapon, a hammer. From this switch, he gains far more reach but reduced speed because of the weapon's size and weight. By taking advantage of this, I'm able to avoid Luis's strike by a hair's breadth by cutting to the inside and then landing a blow of my own on his shoulder, disabling his use of any heavy weapons or tools for a short time.

"Arashi!" I turn to see Nova calling out to me from the combatant's box.

"What the hell do you want? I'm in the middle of a match if you couldn't tell," I shot back. Trying to remind her of the obvious fight happening at the moment.

Nova scoffed. "Why are you holding back, you pathetic piece of crap?"

'What was that?!" I called back, annoyed, and largely offended by the fact that she thought I wasn't using my full power, and that she called me a pathetic piece of crap.

"Drop it. I know you're not using all of your strength. Now stop holding back and win already. You're wasting everybody's time."

I sigh heavily and turn back to the battlefield. "Fine. Since you're so insistent, you damn princess."

Luis watched the whole interaction between Nova and me with a puzzled expression. Considering he didn't speak Japanese, he had no idea what had transpired between us. As I turned back to the fight, harmonic energy started pouring off me in waves, controlled but powerful. Another thing about harmonic energy is that you can exert as much as you would like out of your body in its pure form. But you must have very good control of it to do that. You can also change that energy that flows out of your body into anything you'd like. The energy coming off my body sparked with electricity, as if it were coming to life at that very moment. Needless to say, Luis was scared out of his mind; he had no clue what was going on at that moment. I took advantage of his split-second confusion and rushed forward, taking him by surprise. A left cross from me hit him in the side, then I followed up with a hook from my right, knocking him off balance. Temporarily winded, he used his Attribute to sense my next attack and block it, but I had the upper hand and pushed through his guard, knocking him flat on the ground. I went to strike him while he was down, but he rolled away, got up, and jumped back. However, I was faster, already in front of him when he dashed away, cutting off his escape with a well-placed electric blast from my own attribute. As soon as he came to a halt, I ambushed him. Coming up from behind and delivering one final strike in the form of a fist coated in electric harmonic energy right to his back, sending him out and off the side of the platform. I had won. A single drop of sweat fell from my forehead. I caught it with my palm, staring at it. For this brief moment, I couldn't hear anything: not the crowd, not the chirping of the birds, not the wind- nothing. Pure silence. I found comfort in that.
