I whimpered, then I nodded.

Kael didn't fully turn. Just angled his head enough for me to see one raised, skeptical eyebrow.
He growled "What?"
He was angry Good.
"Payment?" he repeated, the ghost of a smirk touching his mouth. "Did you bring a resume I missed? Should we discuss dental?"
The absurdity of what he said sharpened my tongue
