Chapter 5 - The second challenger

Etherion Forest had grown quieter after the mechanical beast retreated. Lin Feng wiped the sweat from his brow, his body still buzzing with energy from the recent battle.

"This is only the beginning," Lunaria said, her tone calm but firm. "Etherion does not forgive the unprepared. You must grow stronger, and fast."

Lin Feng nodded. "I understand. But how will I know I'm ready for the championship trials?"

Before Lunaria could answer, a rustle came from the trees. Lin Feng's eyes sharpened, and he raised his hands, ready for another attack.

From the shadows stepped a young woman with dark hair and sharp, calculating eyes. She moved with the grace of someone who had trained her entire life.

"I hear you're the rookie champion," she said, her voice smooth and confident. "Name's Nyx. I wanted to see if the stories were true."

Lin Feng studied her carefully. Unlike Lunaria, she carried no drones or gadgets. Yet, he could feel the faint pulse of energy surrounding her. She was a shadow tactician, skilled in stealth and strategy.

"You're here to challenge me?" Lin Feng asked calmly.

Nyx smiled. "Exactly. I hope you're ready."

Suddenly, the forest floor shifted. Shadow tendrils rose like living vines, reaching for them. Nyx leapt and struck with precise energy attacks, cutting the tendrils. Lin Feng joined in, combining his shields and attacks, pushing the forest's assault back.

After the shadows withdrew, Nyx landed gracefully in front of him. "Not bad," she said. "You have instincts. But instincts alone won't win championships."

Lunaria stepped forward. "This trial tests your team, your coordination, and your ability to think under pressure. You've grown, but the real challenges are ahead."

Lin Feng clenched his fists. "Then we face them. I've survived two lives. No trial here will stop me."

Nyx nodded, impressed. "Confidence suits you. Maybe this team will be stronger than I thought."

The three of them continued deeper into the forest. Shadows still lingered in the trees, but Lin Feng felt ready. Allies were more than companions—they were strength. And his true journey had begun.
