Chapter 22 - Krillin Claims the Championship

The referee immediately shouted, "Amazing! Jackie Chun has done something incredible—he actually pushed the moon away! What unbelievable power!"

Krillin stared at the empty sky, both shocked and relieved.

Relieved that Goku was still alive.

Shocked that there existed someone in this world powerful enough to blow the moon out of the sky.

Yamcha was completely stunned as well.

"So that's Master Roshi for you… Goku could only put out a mountain of fire, but Master Roshi can erase the moon. No wonder he's the teacher!"

But while the technique was absurdly powerful, the crowd was far from pleased.

Angry voices quickly rose.

"Damn it! How are we supposed to enjoy moon-viewing now?!"

"We can't even eat mooncakes anymore!"

"The Man-Wolf can't transform!"

"With no moon, all the romance is gone!"

Listening to the furious shouting, Jackie Chun hurriedly urged, "Referee! Hurry up and declare the result—I won, didn't I?!"

Once the match was over, the anger wouldn't be his problem anymore.

After all, they were yelling at Jackie Chun, not Master Roshi.

End the fight, take off the disguise, and he'd be free.

The referee immediately raised his voice.

"Victory goes to Jackie Chun!"

At that moment, Goku slowly came to.

"Huh? Why does it feel so chilly?"

He looked down and realized he wasn't wearing any clothes.

Then he looked up—countless spectators were staring at him.

He hurriedly covered himself, mortified.

"Oh no!"

Goku immediately understood what had happened.

He'd seen the moon, transformed into a Great Ape, and torn his clothes apart.

Master Roshi had blown the moon away, forcing him back to normal.

It was his own fault—because the moon wasn't usually visible during the day, he'd completely forgotten about the risk of transforming in the arena.

Goku couldn't help feeling lucky.

If Roshi's Kamehameha had been aimed at him instead of the moon, it wouldn't have hurt him—but it would have enraged his out-of-control Great Ape form.

At least now, with the moon gone, he wouldn't have to worry about transforming again for a long time.

Just then, Krillin ran over with a set of clothes.

"Good thing Launch made two outfits. Goku, hurry and put this on!"

Goku's eyes lit up as he took them.

"Krillin, block the crowd for me!"

"Got it!"

Krillin stood in front of him, shielding him from view while Goku quickly got dressed.

Once he was finished, Goku realized something was different from the original story.

He was already outside the ring.

"So… I really lost," he muttered, scratching his head. "I thought we'd keep fighting."

Krillin nodded. "Yeah. Old Man Chun is incredible—he even pushed the moon away. I'm nowhere near his level."

Goku suddenly remembered his mission: helping Krillin win the championship.

He leaned closer and said, "Krillin, give it everything you've got. Blowing away the moon must've drained him almost completely. If you just keep pressuring him and run out his stamina, you'll win for sure."

Krillin's eyes lit up.

"You're right! Even if it feels a little cheap… luck is part of victory!"

He patted Goku's shoulder.

"Thanks for wearing him down for me, buddy. When I win and get the prize money, dinner's on me!"

Goku grinned. "I'll hold you to that."

Krillin soon stepped onto the ring.

He was still full of energy and immediately went on the offensive.

Jackie Chun blocked and dodged, but after only a few exchanges, he realized something was wrong.

I can't muster any real strength…

Blasting the moon had drained nearly all of his ki.

Chun felt a chill of dread—but Krillin gave him no breathing room.

The referee was fired up.

"Wow! Krillin is a pure offensive fighter! His attacks are relentless—Jackie Chun is clearly struggling to keep up!"

Chun snapped, "What do you mean I'm struggling?!"

He leapt back and formed the Kamehameha stance.

"Ka… me… ha… me…"

Krillin's eyes widened. "Oh no!"

He instantly mirrored the stance.

Jackie Chun fired first—but this time, his Kamehameha fizzled out like a damp firecracker, flashing once before vanishing.

The referee announced, "It looks like Jackie Chun overexerted himself earlier—his Kamehameha has lost almost all of its power!"

Krillin stared, then remembered Goku's words.

He broke into a grin. "Heh… looks like you're running on empty, Old Man Chun. Sorry, but this championship is mine!"

He thrust his hands forward.

"Ka! Me! Ha! Me! HAAA!"

Jackie Chun's eyes went wide as he dodged—but the blast shot toward the audience behind him.

"Oh no!"

Krillin panicked and twisted his aim upward with everything he had.

The beam veered just enough, flying harmlessly into the sky.

Everyone—Krillin, Chun, and the nearby spectators—breathed out in relief.

"That was too close!"

"I swear it brushed past my nose!"

A new exchange began.

Krillin rushed forward again.

Jackie Chun vanished in a blur, leaving an afterimage behind.

Krillin froze for a split second—

And Chun reappeared, slamming a kick into his stomach.

"Ugh!"

Krillin collapsed, clutching his gut.

"Krillin is down!" the referee shouted, beginning the count.

"Ten… nine…"

Before he reached seven, Krillin pushed himself back up.

He smiled at Jackie Chun.

"Heh… that won't keep me down."

Chun's heart sank.

This kid's grown too fast…

And after all that energy I burned earlier, I can't beat him now.

Before he could think further, Krillin charged again.

They clashed, but Chun could only defend now—he had no strength left to counter.

Step by step, he was driven into a corner.

Then Krillin fired another Kamehameha.

With no other choice, Jackie Chun leapt back—

Straight out of the ring.

The referee shouted, "Out of bounds! Jackie Chun is out of the ring! Victory goes to Krillin!"
