When Straw entered the mansion, Berryanna was already waiting in the hallway, her hands folded. She stood straight, her posture composed, but her fingers pressed together a little too tightly.
"Look who is back?"
"Hey, wifey. Did you miss me?" Straw said, approaching her with an easy smile, the kind she wore when she already knew the answer.
"No. I have other things to do than miss you," Berryanna said flatly, like someone who had been doing just fine since morning. Her voice did not shake, but her eyes lingered on Straw a second longer than necessary.
"Did you notice something different about your beautiful wife, huh?" Straw said as she leaned in and gave a short kiss to Berryanna's lips.
It was quick, careless, confident. After the kiss, Berryanna turned away immediately, her face warming despite herself. She lifted her chin, forced her expression smooth, and took a breath before turning back to Straw like nothing had happened.
"You are late."
