The words hit like cold water.
Thessian and Liora looked at each other, the unspoken tension that had been building since the cabin suddenly impossible to ignore.
"We'll handle it," Thessian said.
"Will you?" Marco's skepticism was clear. "Because from where I'm sitting, you both look like you're about two seconds from either killing each other or...." He stopped himself. "Look, I've seen the moon affect werewolves. Seen what it does to instincts, to control. And having her here, in close quarters, with whatever's building between you two? That's a powder keg, Diablo."
"We'll handle it," Thessian repeated, but his voice was tight.
Marco stood. "Your call. But if things go sideways tonight, don't destroy my apartment. And try not to kill each other. You'll need each other alive for this crazy plan of yours."
He left them alone, the door closing with finality.
Silence stretched between Thessian and Liora, heavy with everything unsaid.
