Lyren could hear distant thuds in his dream but when he focused, the thuds got closer until he could hear clearly as there a knock on the door.
He opened his eyes lazily and walked outside after what felt like forever. He pulled the door opened and he was met by a familiar sight.
The waiter.
"Young Master, your feats have reached us and we are here to congratulate you. We want to change the maid for you because we have realized that she caused you trouble yesterday.
"I have brought you a new one. Her name is Jane and she is among the top of the brass for our hotel. Greet the young master," the waiter said and the girl who was slightly shorter than Lyren bowed.
Lyren sighed. So, they thought that Claire was failing… he slammed the door shut as he declared.
"Only Claire serves me or else I will be asking for my refund. I hope you are ready for that."
The waiter and the maid who had the door slammed on their faces were horrified when they heard the declaration. The waiter personally felt like cold water was being poured on him.
Had he miscalculated? Why was the kid being possessive now? Had he fallen for her? That would be a good thing but Claire was a busy girl and working on a fruitless endeavor was not her forte.
If she was not showing any results, she would get shifted to where it was working. Thus, the kid saying those words was a blow to their business.
"Young Master, please listen to us, Claire has been assigned to a new person. We canno…" the waiter tried to speak but Lyren's voice from the other side cut him off.
"So, there is an important guest than your VVIP. Then you can count me out. I hear there are richer hotels out there who don't go changing the maids for their VVIPs. That does sound good. Hmm…" Lyren's words came and the waiter felt like shedding real tears.
"Claire has the highest demand here and she has been assigned to another person. Please understand," the waiter spoke but he was already gritting his teeth.
"Well, if I ask for my money back and leave a bad name for your hotel, I hope that you will understand that I have paid everything but you have taken it away. Don't blame me," Lyren was also not going to relent.
"I guess you are right. I don't actually need the maid. I am packing. Thank you for your hospitality," Lyren was no longer sleepy and his plan was going to crumble but it did not matter.
He was going to take his pills away and leave. It was not a big deal anyways.
He went back to the bedroom and took a new set of clothes. A white t-shirt and black pants. He then put on sandals and picked the sword from the wall it was leaned onto. He walked outside and opened the door once again.
The waiter appeared helpless and the girl he could not bother to memorize her name was standing there with her ands clasped forward. She did not look up and embarrassment washed over her face.
She was happy to work on the VVIP room today and beat Claire to it but she realized that she was not dealing with anyone else but some spoiled brat. She did not think she could put up with this temper.
"Young Master, are you serious? I thought that our services were good for you…"
"Yeah, the provider was good and I am not interested in this place anymore. Blame your bad luck," Lyren replied as he walked between the two.
They watched as he left and walked outside the gate. The waiter sighed because Claire was right. Only she could handle this kid. He had thought that she was making up things but now he was sure, she was actually trying her best.
"You see. Can you handle that temper? He did not even try to know you. He left immediately. I wonder what Claire did to the kid," the waiter said to the girl who clenched her fists and shook. She was still not good enough and she was beaten by a kid.
Few seconds later, a sight that was beyond imagination unfolded as Claire came back dressed as usual and her hand was stretched backwards pulling the shirt the kid was wearing from the chest.
The kid followed silently like a tamed beast and as they reached the duo standing at the door, Claire spoke adding insult to the injury.
"Young Master, did you miss me so much that you decided to leave when I was no longer available? You flatter me! But what can I say, aren't I your woman?"
Claire said with a condescending tone as she pushed the door open and walked inside with the kid trailing behind her.
"I will be serving the Young Master so you can leave us alone for now."
Lyren did not understand what had happened but he now had a clue. He was used to test Claire's abilities and it appeared that he had played right into their game.
It was obvious the hotel could not afford to offend an inner disciple of the academy. He should have thought about it but he had been played and he accepted it.
He slapped her hand away as he turned back to the waiter. He could still implement his plan then.
"I thought that I had paid for my maid to be available at all times but I don't see her at night…" Lyren started with an accusing tone and when the waiter heard this, he smiled and spoke.
"You are right. The amount you pay can only keep her for the day only. I don't think you can afford to pay for her to stay the night…" the waiter was really good at his craft and he had found another chance to dig some coins.
"What do you mean that I can't afford to pay for the night. You should have told me there was a night package and I would have paid for it…"
"Young Master, you do not understand…"
Lyren chuckled and took the waiter's hand and did a hand shake. This caught everyone off guard and when Lyren pulled his hand away, the waiter had a clenched fist and he peeped using one eye and what he saw made him so overjoyed that his tongue drooped and stars shone in his eyes.
His behind was shaking as though a dog. But in the next moment, he calmed himself down and tried to keep his act professional.
"Young Master really is formidable. I agree that I was rash for not informing you that you can buy her for the night also. I have placed Claire as your maid for all nights as long as you are in the VVIP rooms of our hotel.
"She is not allowed to leave your side and she should serve you diligently without fail." The waiter said as professionally as he could but his joy could not be hidden.
"We shall be taking our leave. Claire will be serving our guest at all times. Enjoy yourself Young Master."
The waiter said as he left dragging Jane. In his mind, everything was now making sense. She was not making any money because the kid was shy.
He could not do it during the day. He should have brought it the first day but he had been foolish. Who knew how much she could have made by the third day? He gave a final glance as they walked outside the gate.
Lyren finally turned towards Claire who was standing there with hands on her chest wondering what had just transpired. Had the kid been shy all along and he was now buying her for the night also?
She watched him curiously as he went and took a seat then placed his feet on the table. A victorious smile appearing on his face.
"What did you do? He cannot let me stay here for a single night that easily. How?"
She asked and Lyren smiled as he shook his legs on the table. His reply came unexpectedly and it was obvious he was not going to elaborate further.
"Call it a man's charm."
