Chapter 58
Kain's POV
Pain was just information. It told you where you were getting hit and how hard. Right now, my jaw was cracked, two of my ribs were floating, and my left wrist hung at an angle that made my stomach turn.
And it was the best goddamn feeling in the world.
Rain poured over my swollen face, washing the copper taste of my own blood down my throat as I lay broken in the shattered stone fountain. Through my bruised eyelids, I looked up at Louis standing over me, his knuckles raw, his breathing heavy, his eyes still flickering with that black, lethal madness.
He looked like a monster. I could barely recognize him. Perfect. Because as long as Louis looked like the monster, I won.
He thought he was beating me into the dirt out of pure, noble rage. He thought he was playing the protector, avenging that little bitch standing out in the rain. He had no idea he was dancing to my strings.
