Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

Preparations for the Bell

On a cliff far from the sects, Xiao Yan sat in meditation. The wind tugged at his robes, whispering faintly like distant memories he could not fully grasp.

"Why does this place feel so familiar?" he muttered, eyes closed, brows furrowed. "What happened a thousand years ago? Who… is playing with me?"

The emptiness around him mirrored the void inside his mind. He focused, reaching for fragments of memory—the clash of gods and demons, the flickering images of Ansha's face—but they slipped away like water through fingers. He clenched his fists, forcing his awareness inward, hoping some revelation would surface.

Back at Saint Lu Qi's residence, a ripple of shadow announced an arrival. Nem appeared from thin air, his expression calm yet unreadable.

"One of the demons wishes to speak with you," he said.

"Bring him here," Lu Qi commanded.

The air crackled as the demon appeared, descending from above like a bolt of night. Mi‑An arrived at the same moment, tense, wary, every muscle coiled in anticipation.

"Xiao Yan!" she cried, rushing forward.

He smiled softly and wiped her tears, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek.

"It's my fault!" she whispered, voice shaking.

"Never mind," he replied, his eyes holding hers. "I'm back, and I won't leave you again. The Ansha… I will take him down."

Lu Qi stepped closer, his gaze sharp. "Do you have a plan?"

Xiao Yan shook his head. "Not yet."

The demon spoke suddenly, his voice cutting through the tension. "The Ansha cannot tolerate the Golden Eternal Bell. The previous demon lord used it to control him—but the Ansha killed him while he slept. If we can find it, maybe we can defeat him."

Xiao Yan's eyes narrowed, calculating. "Are you sure?"

"I swear I would not lie," the demon replied.

Nem inclined his head. "You may leave."

Xiao Yan turned to Nem. "What now?"

"We try," Nem said firmly. "I'll infiltrate the demon realm."

"I'm coming," Mi‑An said immediately, determination hardening her tone.

"Me too," Nem added casually, though his eyes glimmered with something unreadable.

"No," Xiao Yan interrupted, his voice low but commanding. "Stay here in case the Ansha comes."

A pulse of divine light erupted around him, and in an instant, Xiao Yan and Mi‑An vanished from the cliffside.

Later that night, they infiltrated the demon realm. Darkness stretched infinitely around them, the air thick with malevolent energy. Yet their godly powers cloaked them, masking their presence even from the sharpest of demonic senses.

The demon lord's abode was a fortress of lethal traps—barriers that could shred mortal minds, wards that twisted space itself—but Xiao Yan's skill shattered each one effortlessly. Finally, they found the key, its significance heavy in the air like a promise of hope.

As they returned, the world around them quiet and still, Mi‑An's voice trembled. "Do you trust what that demon said?"

Xiao Yan shook his head slightly, eyes scanning the horizon, but his grip on her hand tightened. "We have no choice. The Ansha is trying to instill fear. He killed Saint Gil U to prove his strength. That is why we must act."

Mi‑An looked down, overwhelmed by the weight of their task. Xiao Yan wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close.

"We've never had time for ourselves," he murmured.

Their lips met in a long, heartfelt kiss, the tension of the night melting away as the wind whispered around them. Later, Mi‑An rested her head on his shoulder.

"I want this to end," she whispered.

"It will," he promised, his tone steady. "Once we ring the bell."

Before the Saints, Xiao Yan revealed the bell. Murmurs of hope and awe swept through the hall, the golden artifact radiating an ancient power that even the disciples could feel in their bones.

"I'll fight him," Xiao Yan declared, eyes burning with determination. "You ring it."

"No, let's fight together, so he doesn't suspect anything," Nem countered, calm yet commanding.

"Then I'll ring it," Lu Qi decided, stepping forward with a steady hand.

Demons knelt, their cries of fear and desperation filling the air. They pleaded, hoping beyond hope for the end of Ansha's terror.

"Mi‑An," Xiao Yan said softly, turning to her. "Stay out of this."

"I'm a fairy," she argued, defiance threading her voice.

"I don't want you losing control," he warned, his gaze locked on hers.

Mi‑An hesitated, caught between pride and fear. Finally, with a sigh, she stepped back, dejected but obedient. Xiao Yan signaled Di'or to follow her, and she obeyed silently, the weight of their impending battle pressing down on everyone present.

The stage was set. The bell awaited its ringing, the Ansha's shadow loomed ever nearer, and destiny held its breath.
