Chapter 1 - I don't want to die!

[Stella]

Screeeeech—!

Bang! Bang!

Metal screamed as a gas truck collided with my Hyundai. Glass exploded everywhere, slicing through the air like knives and cutting my skin, especially my beautiful face. The car I had just bought, my pride, my proof that I was finally moving forward in life, was crushed like paper and irreparable.

I am trapped in here.

Smoke filled the car, thick and choking. Pain burned through my body as warm blood soaked my clothes.

"S..so..somebody… help!" My voice came out broken and weak. Is this really how I'm going to die? Of all places on the highway?

I don't want to die. Not yet.

I still have dreams. I want to fall in love.

I want to be rich.

"Oh Lord… oh Lord, please," I whispered, bowing my head for the first time in years. "I don't want to die yet. Please send someone. Just a little miracle."

My vision blurred. I was losing too much blood. The car was beyond repair completely destroyed. Anger flared through the fear.

That stupid truck driver. What was he thinking, speeding like that?

"Wait… where is he?" Panic tightened my chest. "Don't tell me he left me here to die alone. Am I really going to die alone?"

Why am I still awake? Most people would have blacked out by now.

Am I going to be forced to watch myself die?

I can't.

I just can't.

I'm scared.

Since I'm gonna die, let me introduce myself.

My name is Stella Fox. I was born on March 23. I am twenty-eight years old.

Single. Not married. Not rich.

I haven't enjoyed my life yet.

I've never even traveled.

I wanted to visit Italy.

A flicker of orange reflected in the shattered windshield.

Fire.

"Fire!" I screamed. "Please somebody help me! I don't want to die!" Tears streamed down my face, hot and unstoppable. Only now, when death was staring at me, could I finally cry.

"This is getting serious," I sobbed. "I haven't even written my will yet."

What about my money? I haven't enjoyed it yet. Who's going to take it?

It better not be Uncle John. If it's him, I swear I'll haunt him. I just hate that man and don't know why. They should just bury my money with me.

The fire roared closer.

Boom.

That was the moment I died.

Everything went dark.

No one came.

No one saved me.

Poor me.

That stupid truck driver—he ruined my life. If ghosts exist, I'll become a vengeful one and hunt him for eternity.

And Lord…

If there is a next life—

Please let me be rich.
