Esther woke up in a fog, drooling down one corner of her lips, her hair, which is usually kept so clean and orderly, was in a mess, and her eyes were bloodshot. Furthermore, her clothes were ragged, and through the rips, one could see that her originally powerful body was now a husk of its peak condition.
Indeed, the current Esther looked like she hadn't eaten for days, which isn't too inaccurate to say the least.
She was back to being a Ghoul in the slums of New Providence, a pillar of a local gang that committed various crimes to stay afloat.
The same, nasally voice which had woken her up just moments before spoke again, rattling against the inside of her skull.
"Hey, I'm talking to you girl!"
A heavy smack against her shoulder shook the young girl awake. She jolted to her feet, knocking over an empty soda can and tipping over the crates she had been laying on.
