Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: The Diary Returns

The diary had been summoned away by an Accio spell, but not by some powerful wizard. Instead, it was... Neville Longbottom, who had lost his Remembrall.

He had returned during the holidays to search for his Remembrall by the Black Lake. When he couldn't find it, he cast a Summoning Charm. Instead of the Remembrall, the spell tugged on the diary. However, it didn't land in Neville's hands. Midway through its flight, the magical connection faltered, and it dropped halfway to its destination.

Finally, it was picked up by a young witch who was out playing. Coincidentally, after picking it up, she found it too old and shabby, so she tossed it aside in the common room. Eventually, it ended up in Ginny's hands...

The vulnerable little girl fell under its influence easily. Tom Riddle controlled her, leading her to the entrance of the Chamber of Secrets. Using Parseltongue, he opened the Chamber... wait, what on earth was this?

The sink did open, but what was revealed wasn't a dark, gaping hole. It was a wall. A simple touch confirmed it: this passage no longer led to the Chamber.

How... did this happen?

Time was tight, so Tom took one look and retreated. A few days later, seizing another opportunity, he planned to control the girl again, intending to wake the Basilisk inside and have it break through the blocked entrance from within.

But this time, he was discovered by the girl's two brothers. Left with no choice, Tom acted, severely injuring the twins before hiding away again.

Tom was anxious now. That single attack had consumed too much soul power. But the girl couldn't die yet. If something happened to her before he gained access to the Chamber, he'd be in trouble.

Of course, recently he had heard a piece of news—whether good or bad, he wasn't sure. There was a young wizard at Hogwarts with overflowing magical power. So...

"For me?"

Owen never expected that the lost diary would return to his hands in such a manner.

Ginny—no, it should be Student Tom—watched as the young wizard took the diary. The moment Owen turned around, Tom attempted to retreat back into the book. Before leaving, he didn't forget to drain one last bit of life force from the girl. But just then, a hand glowing with soft light reached out and pressed onto the little girl's head.

The remnant soul was instantly ejected. The girl's body went limp. Owen caught her in his arms and strode toward the Hospital Wing. Her body was too weak; without timely medical attention, there could be lasting negative effects.

But just as he neared the Hospital Wing, Ron saw him. When Ron realized the person in Owen's arms was his little sister, his eyes went red. Like a mad bull, he charged at Owen, fist raised to strike.

Just then, the door to the Hospital Wing opened. Ron's fist slammed into the door...

BANG!!!

"Hmm? Mr. Weasley? Oh my, Owen! What happened to this little dear?"

"Madam Pomfrey, this is Ginny. She was controlled by an evil spirit and drained of significant vitality and magic. Fortunately, her life isn't in danger. We can start with Potion No. 5 to soothe her, then follow up with No. 1 and No. 7. She should recover in three days."

Ignoring Ron behind him, Owen carried the girl straight to a hospital bed. In that short distance, he had already outlined the treatment plan.

"Alright, my dear, I'll get them immediately!"

Madam Pomfrey trusted the young wizard implicitly. Owen had helped treat many students before, and in her eyes, he already possessed independent healing capabilities.

But Ron didn't know that. clutching his hand and gritting his teeth, he watched Owen reach out a hand glowing with white light toward his sister's head. Ron roared and charged again. But halfway there, he stopped abruptly, then floated weightlessly into the air.

"Mr. Weasley, I am very busy right now. I don't have the time or patience to deal with you. But if you interrupt the treatment again..." Owen looked up, staring into Ron's eyes. "I will break your legs!"

The little girl was enveloped in a soft white glow. When Madam Pomfrey returned, Owen took the potions and carefully fed them to Ginny. Watching a faint flush return to her cheeks, he finally let out a long sigh of relief. "Alright. She just needs a good sleep. Give her No. 1 when she wakes up, and No. 7 tomorrow."

Madam Pomfrey sighed in relief too. "Thank goodness she's alright. By the way, Owen, what happened?"

"Wait a moment. I've notified the professors. I'll explain once they're all here."

"Alright. Mr. Weasley, the patient needs rest. Please leave."

With a wave of Madam Pomfrey's hand, Ron, still floating in mid-air, was blown out of the Hospital Wing by a gust of wind. But he quickly relaxed as he saw the professors striding toward him. Several didn't notice him, but Dumbledore, arriving last, did. He waved his wand and lowered Ron to the floor.

"Mr. Weasley, you..."

"Headmaster Dumbledore, you have to believe me! Owen—it was Owen who hurt Ginny! I saw it with my own eyes!"

Dumbledore's brow furrowed instantly. "Mr. Weasley, that is a very serious accusation. Are you certain you saw Owen hurting Ginny?"

"I... I..."

"Alright, Mr. Weasley. Go back and rest. The truth will surface soon enough. Once Ginny wakes up, you can ask her yourself, correct?"

"Right, right! Please, you must protect Ginny!"

"I will..." Dumbledore nodded. "I protect every student in this school."

Ron left. He needed to tell Harry and Hermione. Because of this, he didn't see Owen lead the professors out of the Hospital Wing, out of the castle, and into the Chamber of Secrets.

"This is it. I never imagined it would end up in Ginny's hands. I think... should we observe it carefully?"

Dumbledore smiled. "Perhaps you could entrust it to me? I have a better way to deal with it."

Snape's face was cold. After a long moment, he grabbed Owen and pulled him toward the exit. "Dumbledore, I hope you don't play yourself into a corner."

And so, the diary returned to Dumbledore's hands...

---

"It's true! I saw it with my own eyes..."

"Ron!" Hermione couldn't take it anymore. She interrupted him. "If Owen really hurt Ginny, why would he take her to the Hospital Wing? Also, that white light wasn't Dark Magic. It was a soul-soothing spell Owen recently researched."

Ron was frantic. Red-eyed, he roared at Hermione, "Shut up! You've been on his side from the beginning!!!"

Hermione sighed helplessly, packed up her book, and went back to the girls' dormitory. Harry looked at his red-eyed best friend and sighed. "Maybe we should just ask Ginny."
