Chapter 1 - Armongers

Year 2026

Inside the Danaven family's house, xx country xx city xx street.

On the ground floor, there were 2 rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a hall.

One of the two rooms belongs to Sigil Danaven.

"Yes! I finally have a decent job, now I can earn enough to afford a new bike." Sigil Danaven said as he read the letter on his computer, which in summary says, We offer you the position of intern video editor, what your responsibilities are, when and where to report.

As Sigil was happy that he finally had a job, he decided to let his parents know of his new job, so he went out of his room and near the stairs, and he started calling out to his parents.

" Mom, Dad?" as he goes up the stairs and goes near their room, he hears his mother's reply. "Yes, what is it, Si?" his mother calls him Si because that's his nickname at home.

"Mom, guess what? I finally got a job! Hehe, now I can earn money and buy all the new things I wanted to buy, starting with a bike," he said.

His mother replied, "You haven't even earned it, yet you dream of a bike? Do you even know how long it will take for you to earn enough to afford a bike?"

"Yes-yes it will take some time, but I will get enough to buy a bike in a few months… at most I think…"

As they both walk down into the hall, she sits on the sofa and grabs the TV remote, asking, "What's the salary?"

"What?"

"I'm asking how much you will make on this new job?" his mother asked again.

"Um 1300$ per month."

"How much does the bike you want cost?"

"I don't know, let me check," he starts looking for a new bike online, and the price came to 6340$, which was 5 months of his salary.

"So?" she asked.

Sigil replied, "6340$."

"Hmm, if we consider that you will spend some money on other things like clothes and food, and other necessary stuff, that would be about 100-300 dollars per month, 600 -1800$ that's how much you will spend in the next 6 to 7 months, it would mean that you wont be able to buy your new bike for 7 months" she said.

"I get it, ok, I know I won't be able to buy a new bike anytime soon, but I'm not giving up!"

"Sure, no one is asking you to give up. I'm just telling you to follow through and don't go around wasting money on things you don't need."

"Sure, I can do that, now where is dad, I need to tell him too."

"He went out to buy a new light bulb; the one in our room is not working properly." As she said that, she switched to another channel.

"Today on fresh news, a mysterious virus has spread throughout the world, and it continues to spread at a rapid speed. Experts reveal that the virus started spreading from Alaska, but they failed to pinpoint the origin. As we all know, this virus has been spreading for a few days now, and the government of Alaska has yet to make any new statements regarding the issue. We have confirmed that the virus causes instant death to those affected by it, but for some reason, it only affects about 30% to 40% of the people. As of yet, no one knows how some people get affected by this virus, and some don't; all we know is that the virus changes the electrical signals in the brain of those affected, causing them to lose consciousness, and in a few minutes the death follows." As the reporter continued to report the news, Sigil's father came back.

"hun, im back"

"Dad, guess who got a new job?" Sigil asked happily.

"...is it that editing job you talked about? How much money did they offer?" his dad asked with curiosity.

"1300$ per month, pretty nice for an intern, right?"

"That's good for a start, just don't slack off on your job and work hard."

"Yes, I will, and once I have enough experience, I can easily get a better job earning at least 4000$ per month. It's just a matter of time."

"Would you two listen to the news for a second? This is important," as the mother said that they all looked at the TV.

"As the virus spreads further and further, there are a lot of countries where the virus has yet to reach, so we advise people to stay in their houses and not panic.-"

"THUD!" Suddenly, Sigil's father fell to the ground, and as his mother got up to look at what had just happened, she also fell to the ground.

"DAD! MOM!"

4YEARS LATER

Point Lay, Alaska

Inside the temporary military camps.

"WAKE UP! SOLDIER!" As Sigil heard that, he suddenly got up and did a salute." SIGIL DANAVEN ON DUTY, SIR!" Sigil was now a grown man in his early twenties, assigned to the 1st unit of the mechanical infantry. Gorilla squad was the name of their unit, but behind their back, they were called the guinea pigs.

Their squad was mostly assigned to tasks related to machinery and moving prototype robots. They helped in the development of many different machines, especially rideable robots called the Armongers. The job comes with benefits like not worrying about fighting mutated beasts and monsters on the front lines, and the bonus of food and drinks that they receive as a privilege for risking their lives.

On the downside, there are always one or two accidents that happen during the testing of said machinery, and people die… sometimes, most of the time they get a few broken bones, severed limbs, and in the worst cases… twisted bodies… literally.

In the last four years, many things have happened, one of them was that people who died came back to life and started to show aggressive behaviors, and a lot of animals also started showing aggressive behavior, such as eating their own and growing more than usual, things were escalating pretty soon in the first 12days of apocalypse a lot of people died world wide and came back to life in three days.

Once the government realised this, they immediately started isolating the dead bodies and cremating them.

From then on, things kept escalating, fights broke out between people and govt over the dead bodies, many people wanted to bury their family instead of cremating them, and that caused a lot more deaths since those who came back to life crave blood and meat.

As they ate more, they grew stronger, and some of the many monsters evolved into bigger and stronger ones. The bullets and missiles were not effective against them.

Things were going badly, and the military took control all over the world. They did their best to keep the situation under control, but the growing strength of the monsters became an impossible challenge.

Still, people were able to create a haven even in this hellish situation; about 30% of the world's total population survived, and they kept the gears rolling.

Due to the military control, the ethical boundary was crossed a few too many times in the form of human experiments, but that did bring a lot of new technological and biological advances.

"The guinea pig awakens. Today we have monsters vs pigs on the menu, so you better be prepared," a soldier watching from afar said to another soldier.

"nah, I bet that the pig will win, cause that one is here for one and a half years, yet he didn't even get a broken bone, at most a few cuts and scratches, can't believe someone can be that lucky."

"Luckier or not, he is going for the hunt today, so his luck ran out."

"Maybe, but I will still bet that he will survive today," as the bets rolled in, Sigil put on a very tight suit on his skin, making sure to not leave any gaps open, then he wore two more layers of protective cloths.

As Segil looked in the mirror, he said, "I can do this, I have to do this!" with eyes filled with determination, he went towards his bed and grabbed a chocolate bar from under the bed.

He ate it as fast as he could, then threw the wrapper in the dustbin.

"The good old chocolate~ gotta say after such a long time it tasted delicious." Then he decided to go out and report for duty.

"SEGIL, YOU ARE 2MINUTES AND 8SECONDS LATE. AS PUNISHMENT, YOU WILL BE AT THE FRONT AND FIGHT THE FIRST MONSTER," said Captain Gustavo Tulip.

"SIR! YES SIR!"

This was their first time fighting against one of the monsters, so everyone was nervous.

They had the best hand-to-hand combat equipment ever made, Armongers.

As they approached the trucks loaded with the armongers they saw the ten giants that looked like armors made for giants but in this case the chest was open and inside was enough space to fit a normal human easily, the only problem was that the armongers were as complicated as airplanes, to control them you need to know exactly what you are doing otherwise it's all a waste and you can die from a single mistake.
