Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 : Road To The Academy

‎Jack's heart nearly skipped a beat as the girl was quite a distance away from his current position, and she might be hit before he could get to her.

‎Gritting his teeth, Jack shot towards the girl with all the speed he could muster.

‎He barely managed to move the little girl to the side, and his fist smashed into the shard of glass, sending splinters flying in different directions.

‎"Are you okay?", he asked calmly as he helped the girl stand upright. The frightened little girl merely nodded in reply.

‎Jack looks up at the skyscraper in confusion when he suddenly catches sight of someone jumping out of the explosion floor; another figure follows, and he moves towards the first figure mid-air.

‎The first figure that jumped out spun around mid-air and moved his hands towards the figure, closing in on him. Strange purple balls formed mid-air, and they blurred towards the figure behind, and they all exploded in the figure's face, creating a mid-sized level of fireworks in the sky.

‎The smoke in the air barely had time to dissipate before another figure jumped out of the explosion floor and fell in the direction of the first figure that jumped out.

‎As if stunned that another person came after him, the figure tried creating the purple balls again. Still, the new figure was faster, and with a wave of his hand, a huge sword materialized in the air, and with a swing of his hand, the sword hacked down at the first figure, who had barely managed to create the purple balls, but they all exploded, creating a low rumbling sound.

‎Jack was stunned by watching this quick show that happened really fast. These were no ordinary figures; they were awakened warriors, but what could cause them to be fighting in such a place? He thought to himself.

‎An explosion rang out a few distances away, and something was launched in their direction. Before Jack could process or get a proper view of what it was, it shot past him and crashed heavily into a bus.

‎His gaze quickly followed and he saw a figure in power armor struggling to get off the bus. He could tell that this was the figure creating those explosive purple balls, but was he a good guy or a bad guy? Jack thought to himself, and the answer came to him in an instant.

‎Jack's eyes widened in shock as the figure shot towards him with insane speed, covering the distance between them in a breath.

‎"He's the bad guy", cold sweat drenched his back as he thought to himself. He managed to take double steps back, but the figure was already before him, and his hand was stretched out to grab him.

‎The figure's hand was mere inches from Jack's face when another figure shot past Jack, smashing his fist into the face of the one aiming to grab him.

‎The figure groaned in pain as his body was launched backwards like a cannonball, before he could hit the ground, another figure grabbed him by the neck, slamming him face-first into the ground, creating a sickening thud sound.

‎A chill, curling scream tore out of the mouth of the first figure as he struggled to get up, but his arms were firmly held on his back, and he was pressed down on the ground.

‎"Hey, boy, are you okay?" The other figure placed a hand on Jack's shoulder, pulling him back from his shocked state.

‎Blinking a couple of times he finally returned to reality, "yeah, I'm fine", he replied subconsciously, the sweat on his forehead streaming down.

‎The figure deactivated his power armor, revealing the face of a handsome young man who stretched out a hand for Jack, "My name is Erin".

‎Jack looked at Erin's smiling face, and he shook his hand, "My name is Jack", he replied.

‎"Ah, Jack, we are really sorry for your distress, but in a time of crisis, your reaction speed was still okay, you are a newly awakened right?"

‎"Yeah, I am, and I'm just heading to the academy", Jack replied.

‎"Oh, I see, you are waiting for buses heading towards the academy, right?" Erin asked.

‎"That's right, but it seems I'm still going to have to wait for some time as there are no signs of those buses being here at any moment".

‎"Although I'm not going to the academy, if you don't mind, I can drop you off at the academy", Erin said with a light smile.

‎"If it will not be of any inconvenience for you, I won't mind", Jack replied.

‎"Alright it's settled then, I will drop you off at the academy", Erin clapped his hands.

‎Erin turned towards the crowd with an apologetic smile on his face, "Everyone, we are really sorry for whatever inconvenience we may have caused you, and if you are willing, please find a place in your beautiful hearts to forgive us".

‎The crowd murmured in low breath but no one said anything to the warriors.

‎Alright, it's settled then, Erin chuckled as he stepped closer to the first figure, who was still being pressed down on the ground by the other figure.

‎Erin pulled out a plain-looking plastic handcuff from his storage space, "Derek, too bad your running days are over, and it's time to face the consequences of your actions", Erin said as he strapped the plastic handcuffs around Derek's wrist, and it immediately began glowing with a strange green light.

‎"Alright, Jack, let's go". Erin placed a hand on Jack's shoulder, and he began leading him away.

‎Jack looks back towards the other, who was just pulling Derick up. He wanted to ask about them, but Erin pulled him forward.

‎"Don't worry about them, my friend will take care of everything." Let's just get you to the academy. Erin stopped right before a car, and he gently slid into the driver's seat, and Jack also got into the passenger seat.

‎The car moved swiftly on the clear asphalt road, Erin turned and he smiled lightly, "I can't count the amount of time you've been sneaking glances at me, is there something you want to ask me, if there is any question you want to ask please ask away, and don't hold back".
