Chapter 3 - Chapter Two- The Queen's Decree

‎Akosua

‎The hallways of Agyeman Group Headquarters had never felt colder. Not even at 5 a.m., when the city outside was quiet, save for the distant hum of generators and the restless Atlantic wind brushing against glass towers.

‎But this… this chill was different.

‎It wasn't the air. It was the weight of power, of someone deciding my fate without asking.

‎Queen Afia Agyeman's summons wasn't just a call. It was a statement. A soft, polite, terrifying statement that I was about to be reminded… of my place.

‎I straightened my blazer, smoothing down invisible wrinkles, and walked toward the East Wing as instructed. My heels clicked on marble, each step loud in the silent corridor. I felt a hundred eyes on me, though no one was there. My heartbeat rattled against my ribs, yet my mind stayed sharp.

‎Because I knew one thing: I didn't get here by fear. I got here by strategy. And strategy doesn't panic.

‎The East Wing doors opened, and the faint scent of jasmine drifted out. Queen Afia sat behind her ornate desk, hands clasped, the kind of calm that could make empires shake. Every wrinkle in her face, every glint in her eyes, spoke of authority honed over decades.

‎"Akosua Mensah," she began, voice soft but cutting. "Sit."

‎I obeyed, but only slightly. My spine remained rigid, my head high. I had never bowed to fear, and I wasn't about to start now.

‎"You've done well," she said. Her lips barely moved, but her eyes—her eyes weighed me like I was nothing and everything at once. "You've taken a failing company and made it… respectable. Profitable. Admirable."

‎I let her words settle. Admiration from her was rare. Approval rarer. And yet, a chill ran down my spine. I knew the catch was coming.

‎"But," she continued, leaning forward just slightly, "profit is not the only measure of loyalty. Of legacy."

‎I stiffened.

‎"Prince Kofi has obligations," she said, voice soft, almost conversational, but it cut like steel. "Obligations to family. To lineage. To the future of Agyeman Group… and the Agyeman name."

‎Her words were careful. Calculated. I could feel them wrapping around me, tightening.

‎I didn't respond.

‎"You are brilliant, Akosua," she went on. "But brilliance alone cannot secure a dynasty. There are limits… and limits must be respected."

‎I wanted to laugh. Or scream. Or throw something across the room.

‎Instead, I nodded slowly. Polite. Calm. Quietly furious.

‎"Your work is invaluable," she said, softer now, almost gentle. "But your… position… is temporary."

‎I felt the world tilt. My stomach twisted. My hands clenched at my sides. Temporary? My empire… my life… my sacrifices… temporary?

‎"You will hand over the Northern expansion plan to Prince Kofi. Complete control will shift to him immediately."

‎I blinked. Immediately?

‎Her eyes didn't waver. "And after that, Akosua… you are to step back. Your contributions will be noted, appreciated… and then… archived. Quietly. So that the board, the public, and Prince Kofi can maintain focus."

‎I wanted to speak, but no words came. Betrayal didn't need voice. Its presence was enough.

‎"And… the Princess," she added, glancing at the screen behind her, "will join the meetings from today. To learn. To observe. To… secure her future with Kofi."

‎I swallowed hard. Princess Adjoa Owusu. Perfect. Royal. Already polished, already smiling, already taking my place before she even had to earn it.

‎Her words hit like a hammer. Everything I had built. Every sleepless night. Every negotiation, every strategy, every deal I fought for in silence. Erased. Replaced. Forgotten.

‎Queen Afia didn't wait for a response. She didn't need one. She had already decided.

‎"You understand your role?" she asked, voice soft. But in it was a razor.

‎I stood taller, letting a faint smile escape. Not for her. Not for Kofi. For me. They hadn't won yet.

‎"I understand," I said. Calm. Collected. Ice wrapped in velvet. "And I will execute this… flawlessly."

‎Her eyes studied me, sharp. Calculating. She didn't doubt my abilities. She doubted my submission.

‎"You will leave the rest to Prince Kofi," she said finally. "And Akosua… do not make this difficult."

‎I walked out without another word. My heart hammered, mind racing. My empire… my life… my loyalty… all being stolen in broad daylight by the crown of Ghana itself.

‎Back in my office, I sat at my desk, staring at the Northern expansion charts. Everything I had designed, mapped, calculated… would now be under someone else's hands. Hands that might break it, mismanage it, or simply… forget it.

‎I closed my eyes.

‎And then my phone vibrated. A single message. Sharp. Commanding. Familiar.

‎"Meet me. Now. —K"

‎Kofi.

‎My chest tightened. My fingers trembled. My mind screamed. But I didn't hesitate. I knew he had to see me. Had to know the truth. Had to see what he was about to lose.

‎I left my office. The corridor was silent. Too quiet. Each step echoed with the weight of betrayal, anticipation, and anger.

‎At the far end, I saw him. Prince Kofi Agyeman. He looked… different. Not the golden, untouchable heir of yesterday. There was tension now. Something raw. Vulnerable… but still dangerous.

‎"Akosua," he said softly, voice low. "I… we need to talk."

‎I stopped. Studied him. The empire, the Queen, the Princess… none of it mattered. Not yet.

‎"Talk," I said evenly. Calm. Controlled. I refused to give him the satisfaction of panic.

‎His eyes flicked to the corridor beyond. Princess Adjoa was nowhere in sight—but I could feel her presence, a shadow already looming over everything I had built.

‎"I… I don't know how to explain—" he began.

‎I shook my head. No. Not yet.

‎"This isn't about explaining," I said, voice steady, almost quiet. "It's about watching what happens when your empire—your life—is taken from you… while everyone smiles and calls it progress."

‎He stepped closer. I didn't flinch. Not because I wasn't afraid. Because I was furious. Furious at him. Furious at the Queen. Furious at a world that didn't see me, only the man beside me.

‎"Kofi…" I whispered, letting the weight of my fury and heartbreak hang in the air. "If you think… you can replace me… you've already lost."

‎He froze. Eyes wide. Breath shallow. Something in him shifted. But the corridor remained silent, indifferent.

‎And I knew…

‎This battle had only begun.

‎The empire. The betrayal. The Prince. The Princess.

‎Everything I had built… was now a battlefield.

‎And only one thing was certain: I would not be erased quietly.

‎My fingers itched to start a new plan, a new empire, one that would make even the Queen tremble. But first… I had to survive the storm Kofi and his family had just unleashed.
