Silence descended upon the room when Edward was left alone.
Toc. Knock. Toc.
The sound of a pair of footsteps echoing in the hallway was slightly unnerving. The hallway wasn't so big that it should take them so long, but they were simply moving slowly, and it wasn't one person, it was two.
Suddenly, it was his door that rang.
He glanced briefly toward the inn's courtyard and his gaze traveled all the way back to turn around. He walked to the door and opened it.
"Mr. Caterpillar, it's a pleasure to see you again. I'm sorry to visit you so late." Miss Mery smiled.
"Come in, Miss Mery," he said, stepping aside. "I've been waiting for you."
Before entering, Miss Mery apologized. "I couldn't come alone. The magnitude of this mission made me hire a bodyguard. I hope that doesn't bother you."
