Chapter 23 - Against a Wight of the Death, the Fire Death Knight (2)

The Wight knew precisely where the person who had done this to him was; he moved immediately after regaining his senses.

It swung its sword backward in a horizontal attack, searching for the scent of its prey. That bastard would pay!

It was so angry that its hands began to emit more heat, more fire, and its steps were firm.

'Now!'

Edward's eyes flashed as he remembered Professor Owen's lessons.

After an attack on its weakness, the Wight will use its own abilities to the fullest to attack the place where their powerful sense of smell tells it its rival is.

In an enclosed space, it is easy to deceive it because it would be enough to smear a piece of clothing with a strong smell nearby and attack from blind spots, so that it cannot find its rival's whereabouts.

But in open spaces like this, where the opponent's location is obvious, such a thing is impossible. For that, you must use cunning and agility; there is a right moment to move.

The moment the attack is launched, the attacker must be faster than the Wights' sword to somehow jump to the other side, so that when the Wights' attack is over, the attacker is back on their back for another attack.

If done earlier, the Wights would correct their attack and end up hitting the attacker... the theory was simple.

And this was his moment to dodge!

His movement was quick, seeking the Wights' back, propelling himself with all his strength...

'Shit.' He jerked his sword upward.

CLANK!

His body then shot forward, rolling several meters across the ground. He had missed, but it wasn't over yet. He managed to stop himself by grabbing hold of the tall grass growing on the ground, but he had to jump immediately afterwards.

BOM!

"Hmph." Edward managed to dodge the Wights' attack and landed nimbly on the ground.

"You're faster than I thought." Edward grimaced as he stretched. That first impact had also been quite strong, but not as strong as he had thought.

KIII

"Hm?" He looked at his sword. "You're here, little one."

KIII

"Good." He smiled and looked at the Wight walking towards him. "Let's play a little with this guy. You're going to feel a jolt."

Edward stepped forward, and the Wight considered it a mistake, so it laughed with its hideous faces and leaped into the air to fall on top of him. The sword and the attack were extremely fast, but the blow to the sword was not frontal.

Edward held his sword at an angle toward the ground, causing the Wights' sword to slide through it and it to fall backward, thanks to his exquisite footwork.

CLANK!

CLANK!

Two consecutive attacks to the back of the neck made the Wight shudder violently, but it clearly identified its opponent's location and returned the attack, even more powerful than the first.

Edward, this time, would not make the same mistake. He had already measured its reaction time and calculated precisely when it would attack.

That's why he managed to move quickly under the Wights' arm and get behind him again. A few strands of hair from his head fell to the ground, proving that his move, besides being dangerous, had not been perfect.

But he didn't care.

His sword made two more horizontal attacks, striking his opponent's neck.

BAM!

The impact inside was terrible, but the Wight also felt its enemy strike it several times in other areas of its body, although it deliberately avoided the core...

'I can't attack the core,' thought Edward, managing to dodge the attack again.

The reason was simple: the core wasn't in the neck, it was in the chest. And this guy's entire chest and back were protected by sturdy metal armor; attacking it with his current strength would be futile.

That's why he needed to slowly weaken it from other areas.

For the next few minutes, his attack was based precisely on this. Dodge, attack the back of the neck, and then attack other unprotected parts of the body, such as the legs and part of the arms.

Although it was a slow process, it was the only way he currently had to kill a level 10 guy...

At the same time, his caterpillar had clung to the Wights' sword and then reached for the hands from which the fire was coming, helping him to slowly devour it.

Thanks to all this, every time he attacked the back of the neck, he had more time available to attack other parts of the body, allowing him to speed up the process of knocking him down.

After more than 10 minutes of attacks like this, he managed to cut off both its legs in a single attack and kicked it hard in the back, sending it rolling across the ground.

"Aghhh!" His cry of pain was muffled by the dirt that entered his mouth.

From behind, Edward fell on top of it and stabbed it one last time in the neck with his sword, this time aiming to cut it off.

It's dangerous to do this because when you cut off this guy's head, he usually goes into a berserk frenzy that's hard to stop, but now that he was lying on the ground, it was the perfect time to do it.

After being decapitated, the expected happened. Its frenzied rage kicked in, and it tried to attack, but it was already torn to shreds. Its attacks came to nothing; instead, he lost both arms, losing the ability to shoot fire outward.

Although it moved like a madman and screamed, enraged by its frenzy, it wasn't enough to win. The armor on its chest was stripped away, and soon Edward's sword destroyed everything around the core.

He disconnected it.

The movements ceased when the core was no longer connected to the rest of the body, and the system announcements were not long in coming.
