Eleanor ordered the squad to stay guard while Eleanor and I left. The squad members were left outside the building, They stayed well hidden as Eleanor used her ability to cast a shadow over them.
Eleanor and I entered the building ahead of the others, I used my ability to create a portal that will lead us directly to the boiler room. The boiler room had no cameras which worked in our favour.
As we reached the boiler room "I'll use my ability" Eleanor said, almost in a whisper. Using her ability both of merged with the shadow, since I was inside her ability I wasn't able to move freely. We were able to see the outside very clearly within the shadows , but seeing us from the outside was impossible.
We moved away from the boiler room, the building looked more like a factory than a branch of an organisation. "Why does it look more like a factory to me" I asked. "Cause it is one ,the weapons we use are also made here you see" Eleanor spoke with a rare sorrow in her voice .
We searched around the whole building, there were a few military members who were on rounds ,but other than that we were able to find nothing. After searching the whole building Eleanor led me through some underground passage. The passage was untouched by the military after all it was meticulously hidden in the washroom. The passage's entrance was hidden under a very normal looking tile .
It was designed in such a way that no one would notice unless they get the idea to remove all the tiles. It was very difficult to figure out there is an underground passage as there was layers of concrete between the floor and the passage.
"It would take hours if we tried to reach the passage like this, use your ability" Eleanor asked me but her tone was different from before. Her face was pale ,she bit her lips slightly from time to time. She seemed on the edge , As if expecting something . After teleporting us to the bottom of the passage I asked "are you nervous?". She looked confused. "Don't take it in the wrong way , it's just that you don't look very well" I replied back . "Ah?" she replied " it's nothing , it's just that ... t-this is were my parents used to work" she answered. She didn't look like she wanted to answer anything else ,so I didn't press it anymore.
The tunnel had a lot of passages, " where do they lead" I asked . " they join with the sewers in the city" she answered without looking back. " The city is miles away from here, isn't it?" . " yeah it would take them days to figure out they were on the wrong path, plus even those tunnels have a lot of branches leading into different places. So who knows where you'll end up .
"Umm, you know the route right..." I asked . She didn't reply, honestly it scared me a little. After a while we reached the place, we traveled the whole time using Eleanor's shadow to prevent anyone following. After reaching the place she removed the shadows binding us , we were able to come up to the ground again .
Eleanor took out an ID from her pocket then used it on the door in front of us. The door opened revealing an enormous room . It was an arsenal. . " looks like no one infiltrated this place yet " she said. 'As if it is easy to find' I cursed inwardly.
Eleanor began walking again, I wondered if she'd ever get tired . After a while we reached another room it was filled with people. The people were happy when they heard the room open, but when they saw Eleanor face the room fell silent. Eleanor face also twisted after seeing some of their faces.
The air was definitely not very pleasant. The whole time Eleanor asked me to manage them . Some of them started talking about her , while others looked at her with pity . Eleanor looked angry the whole time she had her fingers clenched, she didn't even spare me a glance. After a while I pulled her aside "what's wrong?" she asked . " I get that you have bad memories here , but the success of this mission lies with you .." before I completed my sentence she interrupted me . "So what if this place is destroyed,I for one will definitely be happy if it did" she replied angrily and then left the place .
I knew she was conflicted the entire time , but I never knew she had these thoughts. Looking at Eleanor storming out the people stifled .
The moment she left the room " Damn I thought she'd kill me " . " l never thought she'd come back here" . " I pity that girl, she lost her parents at a young age" chatters filled the room. I heard some of them but I didn't get the context, so I thought I'd apologise to her .
I teleported myself to her, she was inside another room inside the armoury . She looked as if she was zoned out. "I'm sorry" I said , " I didn't mean to hurt you" . "It's okay ...I wasn't on my right mind either" . " I hate those people" she said. " I got that" I replied.
"I don't think I can do this" she replied "I thought I'd be fine after seeing them but no , I just feel worse " she confessed, her eyes glistened with unshed tears . I felt helpless, I didn't know how to comfort her . We both became friends spending months together,but this was the first time seeing her like this. "Maybe if you let out what you're holding in you will feel better" I said to her, but I wasn't sure if she would feel better .
She became silent thinking through something,then said would you listen if said something about how I joined the organisation. I didn't reply I knew that it is something very sensitive for her. " Are you sure about that?"
"Yeah ..... keeping it to myself only hurts more".
