The butler cowered under Genevieve's harsh words, visibly shaken.
"My Lady, I did everything possible," he stammered, gathering what little courage he had left. "I attempted to turn them away, but they've barricaded the estate entrance and won't budge.
"They're making demands, claiming they won't move until they receive payment today. I had no other option but to come to you."
Genevieve's breath caught, her aristocratic tone dripping with outrage. "How dare they threaten me?"
The butler hunched his shoulders, too terrified to speak.
Wearily pressing her fingertips to her temples, Genevieve spoke with obvious fatigue. "Take what we need from the estate treasury—enough to get rid of them for now. We'll handle the rest bit by bit; no need to clear everything immediately."
'If I make this too easy, these vultures will just demand more,' Genevieve reasoned silently.
The butler bowed quickly and hurried from the room.
