Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Which One is Kaido?

Kaido was smashed into the ground by Carlo.

A deep, human-shaped crater was created in the ground.

The edges of the crater were so clean that even Kaido's curved horns on his head were visible to the naked eye.

With that smash from Carlo.

The dazed Kaido was, instead, woken up by the impact.

He angrily propped himself up, blood still oozing from his nose and mouth, glaring at Carlo.

"Carlo! You bastard..."

"Boom!"

His words were cut short by Carlo, who swung his arm again.

Carlo swung his right hand, which was gripping Kaido's ankle, pulled him out of the pit, and then slammed him heavily onto the ground on the other side.

Another human-shaped crater was formed in the ground.

This time, Kaido was face down.

His mouth was blocked by dirt, preventing him from speaking, so he could only struggle to push against the ground, trying to break free.

But Carlo had started to have fun.

"Hooaaahhh!!"

He let out a strange cry, grabbing Kaido's ankle and using him as a meteor hammer, smashing him wildly against the surrounding ground.

The ground, already a dilapidated ruin, quickly became even more mangled under Kaido's abuse.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

The earth continuously rumbled.

Cracks spread out in all directions.

The entire island seemed to be trembling slightly.

Carlo's chaotic smashing left Kaido dizzy, limp, and coughing up blood continuously.

During this, he also took a few punches from Carlo, and several of his ribs were even broken by Carlo.

After dozens of such blows, completely drained of strength and having lost all his temper from being smashed around, Kaido was finally roared at and flung away by Carlo, like a shot put, tracing a graceful arc across the shattered earth before plunging headfirst into the Rocky Port seawall.

"He's really tough, he's not dead yet?"

Looking at Kaido's tenacious vitality, like that of a cockroach, Carlo couldn't help but exclaim.

He glanced at Kaido's spiked club, which had fallen into the dust not far away.

Carlo walked over, picked it up, flapped his wings, and slowly flew towards Kaido's direction.

Just as Carlo thought that even if Kaido wasn't dead, he had completely lost his ability to move.

He was planning to give Kaido a good beating with his own spiked club.

He watched in astonishment as Kaido, who was stuck headfirst in the coastline.

Suddenly braced his hands on the ground and pulled his head out of the dirt.

Then, without looking back, he plunged into the sea ahead!

With a splash!

A spray of water erupted on the sea surface of the port.

Kaido's massive body, like a swimming fish, rapidly rushed into the deep sea.

His speed left Carlo dumbfounded.

Carlo had not expected this.

This Kaido fellow, before becoming a Devil Fruit User, was actually an excellent swimmer!

This diving speed, even compared to ordinary Fishmen, was probably not much worse, right?

Just as Kaido jumped into the sea to escape.

On a pirate ship several kilometers away.

The Whitebeard man, leaning on a giant Naginata, his eyes flickering with red light, sensed the situation at Rocky Port, frowning, with a look of surprise and confusion on his face.

"It's been at least three hours since that newcomer named Kaido started causing trouble at Rocky Port, hasn't it?"

"Why is the battle here still going on?"

"Is Kaido's strength really that great, or is Samuro hiding his power?"

The man had never seen Kaido.

So even though he sensed two rather powerful auras with his Observation Haki.

He couldn't distinguish which aura belonged to Kaido, the pirate newcomer he was looking for.

After a careful perception.

He picked up the binoculars hanging beside him and glanced towards the port where the two auras were located.

This glance caught sight of Kaido plunging into the sea to escape.

He also saw Carlo, with his twin wings, in hot pursuit from behind.

Looking at the spiked club in Carlo's hand through the binoculars.

And recalling the horned Oni giant who had just jumped into the sea.

The blond man was instantly stunned.

"Uh..."

"These two people... which one is Kaido?"

At Rocky Port, Carlo accelerated and flew over the sea.

His golden vertical pupils contracted, and his powerful eyesight penetrated the dark seawater, barely catching Kaido's rapidly receding figure, causing his face to twitch involuntarily.

"Hey! Kaido!"

"You scoundrel, don't you even want your weapon?!"

He roared loudly.

He didn't know if his voice could penetrate the deep sea and reach Kaido's ears.

Kaido's diving speed was very fast.

After just over ten seconds, he, flying above the sea, had lost sight of Kaido.

Red light flickered in Carlo's eyes.

He tried to use Observation Haki to search for Kaido's whereabouts.

However, the chaotic deep sea and the myriad fish in it caused severe interference to his detection.

His Observation Haki was clearly not yet that powerful.

But even so.

Carlo's face didn't show much exasperation.

Instead, it was full of playfulness.

"Poor Kaido, how long can you hold your breath underwater?"

He flapped the wings on his back, slightly increasing his altitude, and looked down at the vast sea from a hundred meters above the surface.

His pair of golden vertical pupils, like a sky-gazing mirror, scanned the ocean, capturing every movement on the surface.

Five minutes.

Ten minutes.

Twenty minutes!

Carlo waited in the sky for nearly thirty minutes before his pupils contracted, and he turned his head in one direction.

A playful smile curled at the corner of his mouth.

"Finally couldn't hold your breath and surfaced, huh?"

"Hakido, you really can hold it in!"

He saw a string of bubbles suddenly appear on the sea surface two or three hundred meters away from him.

A bald head with two ox horns burst out with a splash, beginning to gasp for air.

Kaido, his face purple from holding his breath, hadn't even had time to catch his breath.

When the skin at the back of his head tightened.

His heart skipped a beat, and he stiffly turned his head, just in time to see two conspicuous red lights glowing on Carlo's face as he floated in the sky.

"Damn it! That move again!"

Kaido's face was grim. Without thinking, he took a deep breath and plunged into the water.

However, the attack from behind came faster than he expected!

"Whoosh!"

Two crimson, blood-red laser beams shot out from Carlo's eyes.

Instantly crossing hundreds of meters of sky, they struck Kaido's back with pinpoint accuracy.

The diving Kaido, as if hit by a cannonball, accelerated his descent even more rapidly.

A searing, piercing pain shot through the muscles on his back.

The crimson lasers emitted terrifying high temperatures.

Even the seawater above his head couldn't block them.

The seawater boiled, producing a large amount of bubbles.

In the area of the sea where he was, the water gurgled with bubbles, and large amounts of steam rose.

The lasers released from Carlo's eyes lasted for more than ten seconds before stopping.

He flew over the bubbling sea, red light flickering in his eyes, and his Observation Haki emanated from his body, perceiving the deep sea below.

"Found you!"
