Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 The Codex Awakens

Averyn's POV

The darkness was really thick. It made me feel weird. I did not have a good night because I was sleeping badly. In my dream, I saw a city that was floating in the air.

It was lit up in a weird pale light. I was moving around a lot in my bed because the things I was seeing in my dream were really crazy.

There were people whispering around me but I could not understand what they were saying. Under my feet I saw lines of light that were blinking on and off. I put my hands on my chest and I felt something, it was like the light of the moon was passing through my fingers.

Then I woke up fast and said, "I was really there at that city." It felt like I was really, at that floating city. My sheets clung to my damp skin.

The room was really quiet except for the sounds of her friends sleeping. Carmira, Jade, Ruelle, Gianna and Vynessa were all asleep. Vynessa looked very peaceful her face was calm and her hair was over the pillow.

I felt something in my chest it was like something was pulling me to the glowing book. The glowing book was, on the bedside table. I had no idea how it got there.

When I picked it up, the pages opened by themselves, casting a gentle golden glow that caused the room's shadows to move. Like fireflies, tiny magical sparks drifted along the book's edges and corners.

With a trembling voice, I whispered, "You all have to see this."

Beside her, Vynessa stirred and blinked in the light. "What is going on?" She inquired.

I said, "I don't know, but It seems it picked us or perhaps it's reacting to us".

The air changed as my fingers touched a page. Stretching outward, light threads pulsed softly, almost like breathing. Jade's eyes grew wide.

"Is it alive?" I looked at the others and remarked, "I think it wants something or someone. We must move with caution."

A shadow moved outside the window. We noticed it. This shadow was weird because it moved around like it was alive. It was like smoke. It seemed like it was trying to do something. We started to feel scared.

Then our body just took over and did what it had to do. The shadow, outside the window was really getting to us, it was like the shadow was trying to get our attention or something.

A masked figure showed up all a sudden in a big flash of light. This person moved fast and it looked easy. The hero got rid of the shadow without any trouble. We felt amazed and scared, at the same time.

The hero disappeared as fast as the it had appeared leaving behind some faint footprints that glowed and then went away. We saw that the footprints shimmered and faded. All that was left was the memory of what the hero had done.

"This is the start " I said softly holding the Codex tight to my chest. I really meant it this was the beginning of something big and the Codex was a part of it.

Vynessa's eyes narrowed. "We need to understand it before it understands us," she said.

And for the first time, We realized the night was no longer just for rest—it was a threshold to a world they hadn't known existed, a world that had chosen us.
