Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Concept for Combination Moves in the Pokémon Contest

Meanwhile, after chatting with the audience for a bit, Lionel checked the time:

"That's it for today's stream. Next, I'm going to take Feebas and Tyrunt to the waterfall deep in the forest for training."

"Don't worry, everyone. Before the Pokémon Contest, I'll head over to challenge Roxanne's Gym first. I'll notify you in advance when the stream goes live so you can see the results of our training."

After speaking, Lionel waved goodbye, ignored the pleas of his audience to stay, and ended the stream. Looking at the suddenly quiet screen, Lionel let out a long sigh of relief.

[Stream Duration: 32 minutes]

Nowadays, Lionel viewed his livestreaming cheat more as a tool to assist in raising Pokémon rather than relying on it entirely. What he valued most was the daily training of his Pokémon.

Lately, Lionel had earned quite a bit of money through his videos and viewer donations. He had even purchased some Pokéblocks—items used to raise Pokémon in this world—to compare them with the Energy Clusters from his system.

Although the common low-to-mid-grade Pokéblocks on the market weren't as pure as the Energy Clusters he drew from the system—which could efficiently and rapidly boost a Pokémon's energy intensity—and required time to be absorbed, they were still sufficient for Lionel to raise his Pokémon at their current stage.

The Energy Clusters and Technical Machines from the system rewards were pleasant surprises that helped Lionel quickly boost his Pokémon's strength, efficiently learn various moves, and rapidly increase their move proficiency.

While drawing items suitable for Feebas and Tyrunt was ideal, Lionel wouldn't slack off or stop their daily training even if he didn't get anything useful.

The main things Lionel focused on during training were the usage and proficiency of his Pokémon's moves.

Increasing move proficiency, on one hand, helped improve a Pokémon's physical fitness and internal energy.

On the other hand, higher proficiency meant the Pokémon had better control over the move, could execute it faster, and could manipulate it with more precision.

However, practical applications of moves—like Ash's Pikachu's Counter Shield from the anime—had to be mastered bit by bit through daily training.

Move proficiency only provided stronger control; it didn't mean training was unnecessary. Pokémon and Trainers growing together through training—that was the true meaning of being a Pokémon Trainer.

Regarding the cheat's utility, Lionel was now more interested in the high-level gacha draws. Items like Attack Power-Up, which could enhance a Pokémon's base stats, were what truly set one's Pokémon apart from those of other Trainers.

After ending the stream, Lionel turned to his two Pokémon. "Alright, the audience is gone. It's time for us to head deeper into the forest, find a training spot, and start our session."

Tyrunt rolled on the ground and then ran excitedly toward the depths of the forest, turning back to bark every now and then as if urging him to hurry.

Feebas swam happily in its inflatable tank, clearly looking forward to the new environment.

Lionel hoisted the inflatable tank onto his back and followed, walking along the forest path deeper into the woods.

The further in they went, the denser the trees became. Sunlight could only filter through the gaps in the leaves, casting scattered spots of light.

They saw many wild Pokémon along the way—a few Wurmple crawling on leaves, Shroomish peeking out from behind tree roots, and the cries of bird-like Pokémon echoing from the distance.

Tyrunt was curious about everything. Seeing an Oddish, it immediately went over to sniff it, scaring the Oddish into retreating into the soil.

Upon spotting a Shroomish, it tried to poke it with its claws, but Lionel stopped it just in time. "Don't bother them. Let's get to our destination first. Once we're there, you can run around as much as you like."

Tyrunt nodded obediently and focused on walking beside Lionel.

After walking for about half an hour, the sound of rushing water could be heard ahead.

Emerging from a thicket, the view suddenly opened up—a silvery-white waterfall cascaded down from a cliff dozens of meters high, crashing into the pool below and kicking up layers of mist.

The pool was surrounded by smooth rocks, and the sunlight hitting the mist refracted into a faint rainbow.

"This is a nice environment. We'll do our special training here today."

Lionel set down the tank. Seeing such a large pool, Feebas flicked its tail excitedly and leaped from the tank into the water.

The moment Feebas entered the pool, its entire body seemed to merge with its own world. It swam two laps happily through the clear water, its tail splashing up fine droplets.

Lionel sat on a rock by the pool, watching the little fellow zip through the water, and said loudly:

"Feebas, let's start with Whirlpool. The goal is to increase the vortex's duration to five minutes while maintaining its stability."

Hearing this, Feebas immediately stopped playing in the center of the pool. It took a deep breath, and the fins on its sides gently swayed as it began to guide the surrounding current.

At first, it was just a faint ripple. But as it channeled its familiarity with the Water Pulse move, the ripples gradually turned into a swirling current—this was the move Whirlpool.

Feebas's proficiency in Water Pulse was nearly at its peak. Its precise perception of water pressure and direction was now perfectly transferred to Whirlpool.

While other ordinary Pokémon practicing Whirlpool would often need to repeatedly practice the rotational inertia of the current, Feebas—relying on its perception of water from Water Pulse—knew exactly how much force to use to control the Whirlpool move so the vortex wouldn't collapse and would remain stable.

"Yes, just like that," Lionel encouraged softly. "Keep it up. Watch the current at the edges of the vortex and keep it stable."

Feebas's body rotated gently with the rhythm of the vortex. Every flick of its fins was perfectly timed, pulling the water that tried to spill out back into the center of the Whirlpool.

The vortex, initially only the size of a washbasin, gradually expanded to cover half the pool. The rotation speed increased, forming a small Waterspout, with the splashing droplets around it sparkling like crystals in the sunlight.

Tyrunt, who had been told by Lionel to practice its own moves nearby, stopped what it was doing. It lay by the edge of the pool with its head tilted, staring curiously at the Waterspout.

It reached out a claw to touch it, but Lionel held it back. "Don't disturb it. Go back to practicing your moves, or I'll halve your food tonight."

Hearing about the food being halved, Tyrunt immediately shuddered in fear. It gave a pitiful "Aoo," and obediently ran off to the side to practice its moves, getting used to its body that had only recently been revived from a fossil.

Although Tyrunt was obediently training, its eyes never left the swirling Waterspout created by Feebas.

After half an hour of intermittent training, Feebas's Whirlpool could now last for three minutes, and the vortex remained stable in both form and size.

This meant Feebas's proficiency in Whirlpool had improved significantly. When it finally ran out of energy and the Waterspout slowly dissipated, the little fellow surfaced and blew a bubble at Lionel, as if seeking praise.

"Great job," Lionel clapped and smiled. "Rest for a bit, then we'll continue with Whirlpool. However, next, you'll need to try multitasking. Release Whirlpool and Icy Wind at the same time and see if you can pull it off."
