The house was far too quiet when we reached it. None of us spoke any words to each other. We just headed to our rooms, but I couldn't rest easy.
Even after taking a cold bath to make me forget how Rhys had acted towards me, I couldn't sleep.
Every time I closed my eyes, I felt the phantom heat of Rhys's leg against mine from the interview and the way he had shut me out afterward.
After tossing on my bed for over an hour, I rolled out, shirtless and restless, and headed toward the kitchen. I didn't turn on the light because I didn't need to. The moonlight reflected off the glass walls, casting shadows across the floor.
Then I felt his presence. Rhys was there, leaning against the kitchen island, a glass of amber liquid in his hand, looking out of the window and into the dark trees.
Just like me, he was shirtless, and the moonlight caught the heavy muscles of his back. He didn't turn around when I walked in, but his shoulders tensed immediately when he felt my presence.
