Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 — The Price of a Mistake

When Bepo told Wolf everything, the man's expression changed instantly.

— What are those idiots doing?! — Wolf shouted angrily. — Did they forget how dangerous the beasts in this forest are?!

He quickly grabbed his firearm and turned to Bepo.

— Bepo, I'm going after them. You stay here. If Lo comes back, tell him exactly what happened.

With that, Wolf rushed into the forest — in the direction Shachi and Penguin had gone.

Meanwhile, Shachi and Penguin were walking deeper into the woods.

— See, Penguin? There's no danger here at all, — Shachi said confidently.

— Yeah… — Penguin nodded. — I really don't understand why Lo refused us.

They didn't notice two beast-like eyes watching them silently from the shadows.

Bepo waited.

One hour passed… then two.

None of them returned.

Then he saw Lo coming back from the forest, carrying two dead animals, one in each hand.

— Lo! — Bepo ran to him in panic. — We have a problem!

Shachi and Penguin went into the forest, Wolf-san followed them… but it's been over two hours and they're still not back! I'm scared something happened to them!

Lo froze for a moment.

— …Two hours? — his voice turned cold.

He quickly regained composure.

— Don't worry, Bepo. I'll find them. Show me where they went.

Bepo nodded and pointed the way.

Lo immediately activated his Devil Fruit powers.

— Target.

A sniper-like reticle appeared in his right eye.

He began teleporting rapidly through the forest. To anyone watching, it would have looked like a dark blur appearing and vanishing among the trees.

After only five minutes, Lo heard a gunshot.

Thanks to his enhanced vision, he saw injured Shachi and Penguin running toward him.

Lo appeared in front of them in an instant.

— Lo… — Shachi gasped. — We're sorry… we didn't listen to you…

Because of us, Wolf-san is in danger… please help him!

— We'll talk later, — Lo said coldly, and disappeared again.

He reappeared at the source of the gunshot.

Wolf was standing there, clutching his injured arm, while an enormous tiger faced him.

Lo immediately remembered — he had heard stories about this beast before.

A monster that ruled the deep forest.

The tiger swung its massive paw toward Wolf.

Lo knew instantly:

Wolf wouldn't be able to dodge.

— Shambles!

In a flash, Lo swapped places with Wolf.

He drew his sword, coating it in electricity, and struck the tiger's paw.

A sharp crack echoed through the forest.

The tiger roared in pain.

Before it could recover, a blue sphere expanded around Lo.

— ROOM.

In the next instant, Lo appeared in front of the beast's head and cut it down with a single, precise slash.

The tiger collapsed, dead.

Wolf, who had been certain he was about to die, stared in complete shock.

He understood only one thing:

This was the power of the Ope Ope no Mi.

And Lo had mastered it far more than he ever imagined.
