Among the Seven Kaels, the version inhabiting the Ghoul World stood as a statistical anomaly in terms of raw physical capability. While all were beneficiaries of the collective soul-merge, his strength was peculiarly devastating. This wasn't merely a byproduct of his past as a varsity athlete; the secret lay in the hyper-evolution of his Rc cells.
In this world, Rc cells (Red Child cells) are the building blocks of both human and Ghoul biology. They circulate through the blood and are stored in a specialized organ called the Kakuho.
The fundamental metric of this world is the Rc Value:
Healthy Humans: 200 – 500
Ghouls: 1,000 – 8,000+
When Rc cells reach a certain density, they can be manifested externally as a Kagune, a Ghoul's predatory organ. Although Kael's Rc Value remained technically within the human range, the "quality" of his cells had undergone a cosmic transmutation. His cells were denser and more resilient than the hardest tooth enamel. He was a "human" whose skin could snap high-grade steel blades and whose fists possessed the kinetic energy of a hydraulic press.
"I've explained everything... Can you spare my life?" Akihiro Kanou looked up at Kael, his tone subservient, but his eyes were wide with a manic, scientific fervor. He had realized that Kael was a "Human Plus"—a bridge to the evolution he had spent his life chasing through bloody experiments.
Kael saw that look. He had seen it in the eyes of corporate scavs in Night City and mad sorcerers in the Taisho era. It was the look of a man who would turn the world into a petri dish if given a second chance.
Crack.
Kael didn't bother with a verbal rebuttal. He stepped forward, and a single, heavy stomp snapped the doctor's neck like a dry twig. Akihiro Kanou was a genius, but dead geniuses are far less troublesome than live ones with messiah complexes.
"Kael... what do we do now?" Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa moved to his side, their faces pale.
Their anxiety was rooted in the logistics of the situation. Juuzou Furuta wasn't just a murderer; he was a high-ranking member of the CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul). By taking the sisters, he had scrubbed their identities from the system. They were now ghosts, trapped in an illegal laboratory with two corpses.
"Don't worry. I'm here," Kael said, his voice calm. He began the grim task of body disposal. Kanou was easy to move, but Furuta had been pulverized with such force that parts of him were practically part of the wallpaper. It took the three of them significant effort to scrub the room clean.
Kael had no intention of letting Kanou's assets go to waste. The Underground Laboratory was a state-of-the-art facility hidden from the world's prying eyes. Since the doctor had "consented" (in Kael's mind) to the transfer of property, Kael now owned a fortress of forbidden science.
Kael navigated the depths of the lab until he reached a reinforced containment cell. Inside, suspended in a regenerative tank, was the Ghoul Mother herself: Rize Kamishiro.
She was the S-Rank Ghoul known as the "Binge Eater." Despite her imprisonment, she remained defiant. As Kael approached, she let out a sharp, hunger-driven howl.
"What do you want?! Meat! Give me meat!"
Kael scrutinized her. She was undeniably beautiful—fair, porcelain skin and a mature allure that was a curated weapon. Rize had been raised within the Washuu Clan as a "Womb," a breeding machine for the clan's pure-blooded lineage. Her entire existence had been defined by serving the whims of men until she escaped, only to be recaptured by the yandere-obsessed Furuta.
"Where are those two bastards?" Rize hissed, her violet eyes flashing.
"Dead," Kael replied.
"Dead? Did you kill them?"
"Casual matter. No need for a thank you," Kael shrugged.
Rize squeezed out a seductive smile, pressing her body against the glass. "Little Brother... let me out. I'll thank you properly."
Kael stepped closer, reaching through a feeding port to stroke her face. Rize acted like a docile pet, nuzzling his hand before—in a flash of predatory instinct—biting down with the full force of her jaws.
Crunch.
Rize's eyes went wide with agony. Instead of tearing through flesh, her teeth had shattered against Kael's hand as if she had bitten a titanium slab. Kael calmly withdrew his hand, shaking off the fragments of her teeth.
"Seriously? You got my hand covered in slobber," he muttered, wiping his palm on her face.
Rize slumped back, her mind reeling. She was the Binge Eater, a predator that had consumed hundreds. Yet, she couldn't even break the skin of this "human."
"Who... are you?" she asked, her voice muffled as her Ghoul regeneration began to regrow her teeth.
"Call me Kael, Miss Kamishiro." He squeezed her cheek like a disobedient child. Rize was currently at her weakest—starved and missing her Kakuho (which Kanou had repeatedly harvested). She had no leverage.
"I will let you out eventually," Kael said, his gaze clinical yet oddly warm. "But you need training. You're too wild for the streets right now. In exchange for your cooperation, I can satisfy your... cravings."
"I'm so hungry," Rize whispered, her obsession with flesh overriding her terror. "Give me just a bite of you. Please."
She could smell him. To a Ghoul, Kael didn't smell like a human; he smelled like a concentrated sun. The energy radiating from his blood was a siren song.
"You want to eat me?" Kael teased, running a finger across her lips.
"Just a taste... I'll do anything," she begged, her Rinkaku Kagune—tentacle-like appendages—sprouting weakly from her back in a desperate display of need.
Kael sighed and allowed a small bead of blood to form on his finger. Rize lunged, sucking his finger with a desperation that bordered on madness. The energy hit her system like a lightning strike. Her cells moaned in ecstasy; just a few drops of Kael's blood contained more nutritive value than ten full-grown humans.
Her Kagune instantly flourished, turning sharp and violent as she tried to pull him into the cage. Kael didn't flinch. He swiped his hand, tearing the Kagune to shreds as if they were made of paper.
"Not obedient," he said, tapping her forehead. The flick sent her reeling into a near-unconscious state.
As Kael exited the containment area, he was met by the twins.
"I thought I heard a girl crying," Kurona said, her hand resting on her Quinque case. "Is there a Ghoul in there? Should we zero her?"
"No. She's a high-value asset," Kael said. "I'm going to let her cool off. She needs to understand the new hierarchy."
Kurona narrowed her eyes, her gaze drifting to the "strawberries" (bruises/marks) on Kael's neck from his struggle with the lab's inhabitants. "A female Ghoul, I assume?"
"Sister," Nashiro tugged at Kurona's sleeve, her voice soft. "This isn't the time for an interrogation."
Kael smirked. He had a state-of-the-art lab, two dead high-profile enemies, and a legendary Ghoul as a test subject. The "Calculating Survivor" had officially upgraded his toolkit.
