Chapter 33 - Duel of Knowledge

"Look who's late. I thought you chickened out." Fuutarou teased, now wearing a black vest and shorts of the same color. Miku narrowed her eyes at him. They were at a local park. Fuutarou had chosen the one near the Pentagon so that it wouldn't he a hassle for Miku.

"I'm new to the area Fuutarou, remember?" Miku mumbled. Fuutarou chuckled as he admired her outfit, first noticing that her headphones were gone. Miku donned a red tracksuit with her name on it, a black skirt and all black thigh highs that highlighted her thighs, to which Fuutarou showed his admiration by staring at it.

"H-hey...My eyes are up here..." Fuutarou widened his eyes as he looked up at Miku pouting at him, a warm blush on her as she realized that he was checking her out.

"Perv..." She mumbled, before smiling a little in amusement as Fuutarou stuttered, trying to explain himself. She placed a finger close to his mouth.

"Let's not waste time." He raised an eyebrow at her.

"Oh? You're so eager to get wrecked by me?" Miku narrowed her eyes at his taunt.

"I think it's you who should watch it, Fuutarou. You may be smart, but you're not going to beat me in history." He smirked, liking the confidence from the usually shy girl.

"Well it's on!" They started jogging, with Miku starting the Warlord Shiritori game off. Both were doing well, with Miku keeping up with Fuutarou's pace as they played the game, surprising even herself, but unknown to her the man was simply slowing down just for her.

It was a weird sight to see, a man and a girl running together while naming out famed Warlords of their nation. Thankfully there weren't many people in the park today, so the two were spared from the stares.

It wasn't long before Miku started panting. She slowed down, now straying far from Fuutarou, but the girl stubbornly kept the game going, just barely. Fuutarou smiled at her determination, admiring it in his heart as he stated another Warlord's name.

"Haaa!..." Miku breathed out, her steps heavy as she desperately kept going. As she barely muttered out a Warlord's name, she felt her body giving up on her.

"Ugh..." Miku groaned as she tripped on her own legs, falling forward, not even have the energy to panic at her situation. She closed her eyes, bracing for impact. But the pain never came...

Miku opened her eyes to see that she was leaning against Fuutarou, the man looking down at her weak figure with a victorious smirk. "So Miku, does this mean that I'm more knowledgeable about the Sengoku period than you?"

"Sh-shut up... It... doesn't count.... My body... is just weak..." She muttered in between her heavy breathing. All she cared about was getting some rest. She realized she didn't bring her water bottle with her. Miku hated how clumsy she can be sometimes.

"Sure sure, whatever helps you sleep at night. Let's get you somewhere to rest." She gasped as he swept her off the ground, cradling her bridal-style as he carried her toward the grass.

"Fu-fu-fuutarou..." She buried her face in her hands, mortified, her cheeks blooming red like roses. "Wh-what are you d-d-doing?" Her own stutter betrayed her, deepening the embarrassment.

"Carrying you, obviously. I'm not letting you walk after a fall like that." He smiled down at her, and Miku found she couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze. He gently laid her down on the soft grass like she was fragile, like she was something that needed to be protected at all costs.

"Why didn't you bring water with you, silly girl?" He placed his hand on her head gently, smiling down at her. Miku was too exhausted to think of an excuse, stabilizing her breath being her main focus of the moment.

Fuutarou took out his bottle from his small pack that hung around his body before handing it to the girl. "Drink." He muttered as she took it. He chuckled lightly as the girl quickly chugged the water down, her eyes closed, enjoy the hydrating feeling the water gave. Fuutarou found it cute.

"You're thirsty aren't you? I'll go see what that vending machine has to offer." He muttered he left Miku alone. The girl looked at her legs, feeling uncomfortable wearing her soaked thigh highs. She quickly took them off, sighing in relief as the wind blew onto her legs.

"Kyaaa!" She yelped as she felt a sudden cold sensation on her face. She looked to see Fuutarou grinning at her, having placing the cold can of matcha soda on her face to surprise her.

"Mmmm!!" She pouted at him, to which Fuutarou adored in his heart. Her tutor was really trying to get on her nerves with his taunting and teasing. Well, she won't let him succeed, as she knew he would only tease her further.

But looking at the matcha soda he got her, she had to ask him something. "How'd you know what to get me?" Fuutarou sat beside her, cracking open his can of matcha soda.

"I saw you drinking the same thing during recess. I never took you for a matcha lover though." He smiled before drinking it. Well, with the taste test, he now knew why matcha lovers are matcha lovers.

"Tasty isn't it?" She smiled a little before taking small sips of it, enjoying the flavor.

"Mhm..." He hummed before taking out a dry towel from his pack. He then started wiping Miku's sweaty face.

"Fu-fuutarou!" Miku's complaints were muffled as Fuutarou gently wiped her mouth.

"I-i'm not a baby—Mhmphf!" Miku groaned as he wiped her nose.

"I thought girls liked getting the princess treatment." He said as he gently wiped her face with the towel.

"P-princess?" Miku stuttered out. Her? A princess? If Nino were here she would be laughing her face off at Fuutarou's statement. He smirked at her.

"Yeah, you are a princess aren't you? With the way I saved you when you fell, I'd say you fit the category perfectly."

"Hmmm!" She pouted at him, before she huffed and looked away.

"Hmph! Meanie!" Fuutarou laughed at her insult as he gently wiped her neck, before he moved down to her sweaty legs.

"H-hey! W-watch where you're touching!" She squeaked out.

"Too late." Fuutarou chuckled as he wiped down her leg. Some elders walked back and pretended they hadn't seen anything.

"What a cute couple. Acts like us when we're younger don't they?" The old man muttered to his wife who laughed in response.

" Eh...ehh?????" Miku didn't know what was going on at this point. Her face was red, her legs were tired, she felt like she couldn't move.

What an eventful day indeed.

...

" I... I don't know Fuutarou... What if I fall?"

"You'll just have to hold on tightly then." He smiled as he gently placed the helmet on her. Intending to save Miku some time, Fuutarou volunteered to take her home.

"D-don't go too fast." She whispered as she slowly got on the bike as he started it. Fuutarou chuckled. Judging my itsuki's and Miku's reactions when they get on his bike, do all of the quints have fear of motorbikes?

"Relax Miku, it's not that bad. Think of it as riding a horse, but instead of four legs it has an engine and two wheels." Fuutarou encouraged as he slowly accelerated. He felt Miku's grip around his waist tighten immediately and resisted laughing out loud.

Miku let the wind slip through her hair as they rode. It was nice, surprisingly so, especially considering that only seconds ago, the bike's sudden acceleration had nearly stopped her heart.

They rode home in comfortable silence. He didn't mention how she'd been feeling his chest the entire way, deciding he'd teased her enough for one day, unless he wanted her face to stay permanently red. He also kept to himself the fact that he'd felt her chest against his back, quietly preserving it as a moment meant only for him.

They reached the apartment complex, and Miku, clearly exhausted, leaned into Fuutarou as they walked. Her arms slipped around his, and he slowed his pace without thinking as he guided her toward the elevator. He swallowed when he noticed her head resting against his arm as the elevator rose, closer than strictly necessary.

"Tired huh?" He asked with a quiet chuckle. Miku answered with a soft hum. She knew exactly how it looked, how close they seemed, how easily someone could misunderstand. But she felt comfortable, safe, and so she stayed there, clinging to him until they reached the door of her apartment.

"I guess this is where we part ways, get some rest alright? You have school tomorrow and I don't want you sleeping in class." He advised, she silently nodded as her response to him.

"Did you have fun?" He asked. Miku remained silent for a while, before she looked up at him. He widened his eyes as she smiled widely, sincerely. It was like looking at the sun.

"Yes! Yes I did!" Her happy tone made him feel some type of way. He was immediately smitten, now wanting to protect that happiness. He smiled in return.

"I'm glad... I've got to get going now, see you tomorrow. Oh and, tomorrow I'm coming over for the tutoring session too, so get ready for that." He waved at her before turning and walking off. She watched him, as his back grew smaller, everything else went still, leaving the steady tap of his footsteps to fill the space. She heard each step clearly, maybe too clearly.

"Fuutarou..." He stopped and looked back, an eyebrow raised at her. She clenched her fists tightly, her mind fighting a battle between fear and confidence.

"L-Let's do this again." She managed to say, looking at his kind eyes. He smiled and gave her a thumbs up.

"For you, I'd do anything if it makes you happy." He replied before walking away again, stepping into the elevator without looking back. She stared silently before giggling.

"Pfft... Did you steal that from a K-drama?Hihihi~" She laughed to herself before sighing, her mind going back to what he said.

"So... anything huh...."
