"Stop," Laurel said, remaining in her spot.
Ling Xuan did not heed her words and continued whipping herself.
Laurel closed her eyes, as the wave of pain shot through her. She didn't know what she was supposed to do or how she could talk Ling Xuan out of it; in fact, she believed she couldn't.
"Ling Xuan, even if you punished yourself, we still need to find out the reason why she turned infected," Laurel said, knowing that would be the only way to gain her attention.
She wiped the remaining drops of tears from her eyes, looking up to stop the tears from falling from her face.
Ling Xuan grunted as the whip hit her skin again. Her breath became slightly uneven and her teeth gritted, forcing the sound down.
Her fingers wrapped around the whip, which trembled slightly as she finally lowered the whip which was now dripping with her blood.
