Jeffery stood behind the glass wall in silence, his hands resting inside the pockets of his lab coat as he watched the restrained man struggle on the examination table.
The awakened subject's chest rose and fell quickly, his breathing uneven and sharp. Sweat clung to his skin, yet his skin looked strangely unharmed for someone who had been exposed directly to the bloody mist.
"Vitals are stable," one of the researchers said in a low voice. "Heart rate is elevated, but not critical."
Jeffery gave a small nod. "Increase the voltage slightly."
A faint current ran through the restraints wrapped around the man's wrists and ankles. His body jerked, and a strained sound escaped his throat.
"Why am I tied down?" he shouted, his voice breaking under pressure. "You said you were bringing me somewhere safe!"
"You are safe," Jeffery replied calmly. "Safer than you would be outside."
