Chapter 22 - The Proposition

Marcus returned to Veridia, but not to Thorne Tower. He rented a small office in the same neighborhood as the Daily Grind. Using the last of his uncontested, "clean" capital, he launched a new venture: "Foundation Foundry." It was a hybrid consultancy and investment firm with one rule: it only worked with businesses that had already proven community value and needed scaling, not saving. The founders retained 51% control, always. He used his genius for strategy, not for domination, but for amplification. His first client was a struggling community bookstore next door to the Daily Grind.

He worked openly, his past no longer a secret but a lesson. He was often seen at local planning meetings, listening more than speaking. He rebuilt his life, brick by humble brick.

Six months after the residency, he walked into the Daily Grind. It was bustling, healthier than ever. Chloe was at the counter. He approached, no longer as a customer or an employee, but as a neighbor.

"I have a business proposition," he said.

Her guard went up slightly. "Oh?"

"My firm, Foundation Foundry, wants to propose a strategic partnership with the Daily Grind. We see unique value in your community integration and sustainable sourcing. We'd like to offer consulting services to help you explore a potential second location, with you retaining full ownership and creative control. Our fee would be a small, conditional percentage of new location profits only."

He slid a simple, clear proposal across the counter. It was professional, respectful, and empowering. It offered help, not a handout; partnership, not patronage.

Chloe picked it up, her eyes scanning the terms. She looked back at him, seeing the man who had scrubbed pots, made calls, and finally learned to listen. "This is… actually a good proposal."

"I've been learning," he said softly.
