I was sitting beside my mother and Sylvia's mother when a voice cracked through the living room door. I looked up, and there she was.
It's sylvia, finally I won't be bored alone here now
I smiled at her.
She stood there, looking back at me, and a smile cracked across her face too. My mother and her mother told her to take me to her room. She did, and soon I was sitting on her small bed with a grin still on my face
I talked about my day to her — about my crush. She nodded and talked about her day too. Then our mothers called us for lunch. We went out and sat at the table. While I was taking bites of my food, she finally spoke. "Aunty," she called out. "Veronica told me you call her a slut. Why is that?" She sounded serious — calm, like she always did. "In order to make her study," my mother answered, a frown on her face. "I see," Sylvia replied. "Why do you have to question your elder? Don't you have any manners?" her mother shouted at her. It didn't even make her flinch. If I were in her place, I would have cried by then. "Sorry," Sylvia said, not looking up from her food.
"we eventually finished our food and then it was our time to return home. I waved a goodbye at sylvia and her mother before my mother drove us back to our home.
I went in and eventually I was drawing a sketch on my notebook. Then, a phone call came to my mother's phone. She was in the same room as me, watching the tv so I was hearing what they were saying
When the phone call ended, i looked to my mother and asked her
"why did aunty abandon the baby?" I asked, i heard everything they said
"it's because the baby was a girl" my mother replied.
"Oh" I said, a question lingering through my mind.
"If it was a boy would they abandon it?" I said
"probably not" my mother replied and I went back to sketching without questioning farther, then a sudden memory came to my mind. Sylvia came to my mind, how she is always calm in such situations? She is always serious as if she were in some military. I hate her, even her smile is so fake"
