Zayne watched his twenty-year-old daughter demonstrate her combat abilities and wondered, not for the first time, how his heart hadn't given out yet.
Lizzie moved with the same chaotic grace as her mother—all enhanced strength and zero hesitation. She grabbed a Wanderer mid-lunge, spun it over her head, and *slammed* it into the training ground with enough force to crack the concrete.
"NICE!" Nana cheered from the sidelines. "Perfect form!"
"MAMA TAUGHT ME!" Lizzie called back, already moving to the next target.
Zayne felt his blood pressure spike. "She's going to hurt herself—"
"She's fine," Nana said, completely unbothered. "Look how good her technique is!"
"She just threw a Wanderer like a shot put—"
"Exactly! Perfect throwing technique!"
Lizzie hummed a love song while kicking another Wanderer. Actually *humming* while fighting. Like this was a casual afternoon activity instead of life-threatening combat training.
*She gets it from you,* Zayne thought, watching his wife glow with pride. *All of it. The chaos. The kicking. The complete lack of self-preservation.*
But there was someone else watching too.
A young man stood beside Zayne, looking equally terrified and deeply in love.
Ryan Lin. Age 22. Hunter Association. Lizzie's patrol partner.
And, as of three weeks ago, Lizzie's first boyfriend.
"She's... very talented," Ryan said carefully, watching Lizzie demolish her fifth Wanderer.
"She's terrifying," Zayne corrected. "But thank you for being diplomatic."
"I mean it. Her combat efficiency is incredible. She took down a Level-A Wanderer last week in under thirty seconds."
"That's—that's concerning on multiple levels—"
"It was amazing." Ryan's eyes followed Lizzie with clear adoration. "She's amazing."
Zayne studied the young man carefully. Tall. Well-built. Patient expression. The kind of face that suggested he'd already been kicked by Lizzie at least twice and come back anyway.
"You're brave," Zayne observed. "Dating her."
Ryan laughed nervously. "Most guys are too scared. She's got a reputation for tackling people. And the combat thing. And the enhanced strength."
"And yet you're still here."
"I love her." Simple. Direct. True. "She's chaotic and fierce and stronger than me. But she's also kind. Funny. Brilliant. I don't care that she could probably throw me across a room."
"She definitely could."
"I know. She's demonstrated. Twice."
"And you came back?"
"Of course. She's worth it."
Zayne felt something settle in his chest. Approval. This man understood. Understood what it meant to love someone who was equal parts weapon and person. Who chose her anyway.
*Like I chose Nana. Like I choose her every day.*
Lizzie finished her training set and jogged over, barely breathing hard. "Papa! Did you see? I got all twelve in under five minutes!"
"I saw. My cardiologist heart is very concerned."
"You're always concerned!" She kissed his cheek, then turned to Ryan. "Ready to go? I promised Mama we'd have dinner together!"
"Actually," Ryan said carefully. "She threatened to demonstrate her kicking abilities on me if I ever hurt you. Very specifically. With detailed descriptions."
Lizzie beamed. "She likes you!"
"That was liking me?!"
"Yes! She only threatens people she approves of!"
Zayne smiled slightly. "She's not wrong. Though for the record—" He looked at Ryan seriously. "If you ever hurt my daughter, you'll have to deal with both of us. And we're very creative about threat follow-through."
"Understood, sir."
"Good. Now let's go before my wife climbs something."
After dinner (where Lizzie tackled Ryan on the grass and they rolled around like puppies while Zayne questioned all his life choices), Nana and Zayne walked to their favorite park bench.
The same bench where they'd sat twenty years ago, planning their future. Hoping for peace. Believing it was possible.
They'd found it. Built it. Lived it.
Zayne pulled out a strawberry candy from his pocket—the same kind he'd given her in Avalon, in the hospital, on their first real date.
Their tradition. Their connection. Their beginning.
He placed it in her palm carefully.
Nana stared at the wrapped candy, eyes filling with tears. "You still carry these."
"Always have. Always will."
She unwrapped it slowly, popped it in her mouth, and leaned into his shoulder. They watched Lizzie and Ryan in the distance—young and in love and happy.
"She's so grown up," Nana whispered. "When did that happen?"
"Gradually. Then suddenly." Zayne wrapped his arm around her. "Feels like yesterday she was kicking medical trays in the delivery room."
"Now she's kicking Wanderers and bringing home boyfriends."
"He's good for her. Patient. Loves her chaos instead of fearing it."
"Like you love mine."
"Exactly like that."
They sat in comfortable silence, tasting strawberry and memories.
Nana glanced at Zayne—hair showing silver at the temples now, lines around his eyes from smiling and worrying in equal measure, still the most beautiful man she'd ever seen.
Still choosing her. After everything. After Avalon, after the facility, after twenty years of marriage and chaos and enhanced-daughter-raising.
*Still here. Still mine. Still loving me despite everything.*
"Linkon is gone," she said quietly. "Mina is different. My parents are dead. I lost so much."
"But you have me," Zayne said softly.
"But I have you." She smiled through tears. "I'll always have you. Since the first timeline. Since you died for me over and over. Since you fell in love with me three times. Since you chose to marry a weapon and raise a chaos child and build this life."
"Best decision I ever made."
"Even though I climb fountains?"
"Especially because you climb fountains."
Nana laughed, crying, loving him so much it physically hurt. "I don't have words to express how much I love you. How grateful I am. How—"
"I know," Zayne interrupted gently. "I feel the same way. Every day. Every moment."
He kissed her temple. "We survived hell together. Built heaven afterward. Raised the most chaotic, wonderful daughter. And now we get to watch her find what we found—someone who chooses her. Loves her. Stays."
"Ryan seems good."
"He let her tackle him three times during dinner. He's perfect."
They watched Lizzie chase Ryan through the park, laughing, glowing with happiness that came from being loved exactly as she was.
Enhanced strength and all. Chaos and all. Her.
"We did good," Nana said. "With her. With us. With everything."
"We did better than good. We did perfect."
"Perfect chaos."
"The best kind."
Zayne pulled out another strawberry candy. Unwrapped it. Fed it to Nana like he'd done a thousand times before.
She caught his hand, kissed his palm. "Thank you. For everything. For surviving. For choosing me. For building this life. For loving our chaos daughter. For still giving me strawberry candies after twenty years."
"Thank you for jumping into Avalon to save me. For making me fall in love three times. For tackling me at our wedding. For giving me Lizzie. For climbing fountains and trees and everything else. For being you."
They kissed—soft and sweet and full of twenty years of love and survival and choice.
When they pulled apart, the sun was setting. Painting the sky orange and purple and gold.
Lizzie and Ryan sat on the grass nearby, his arm around her, her head on his shoulder. Young love. New beginning.
*Full circle,* Zayne thought. *From Avalon to here. From death to life. From weapons to family.*
*We made it.*

A MESSAGE TO YOU, BELOVED READER
If you've read this far, you've traveled with Me through hell and back. Through Avalon's death realm, through Linkon's fall, through government conspiracies and android friends and nuclear strikes.
Through love that transcended memory loss. Through choosing humanity despite being built as weapons. Through surviving when giving up seemed easier.
And now—here. At the end. At peace.
What we learned:
Love is choice. Zayne chose Nana three times, through death and memory loss and fear. Nana chose Zayne through every timeline, every danger, every impossible moment. They kept choosing each other. That's what made them survive.
Humanity is not biology. Nana was Specimen 21, modified from birth. Zayne was Version 06, enhanced against his will. Mina was an android learning to feel. Lizzie was born with enhancements. But all of them were human because they chose kindness, chose love, chose to be more than their programming.
Family is who chooses you. Nana lost her parents. But Zayne's parents chose her as their daughter. They built family from choice, not blood. From love, not obligation.
Chaos can be love. Nana climbed fountains and trees. Lizzie kicked everything and befriended squirrels. Ryan got tackled three times at dinner and came back smiling. The Li family was chaos. But that chaos was how they loved—fully, desperately, without reservation.
The future is built on surviving the past. They endured Avalon. Survived Linkon. Escaped the facility. Defeated the government. And used all that pain to build something beautiful—a life of strawberry candies and apple jam and ice slides in hospital courtyards.
To anyone fighting their own Avalon:
You are not your modifications. Not your trauma. Not your programming.
You are your choices.
Choose kindness when the world chooses violence. Choose love when fear seems safer. Choose to climb fountains and make apple jam and tackle the people you love.
Choose chaos. Choose hope. Choose to survive.
And someday—maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday—you'll sit on a park bench with someone who chose you back. You'll watch your chaos daughter tackle her boyfriend. You'll taste strawberry candy and remember when survival seemed impossible.
And you'll realize: We made it. Against everything. We actually made it.
Thank you for reading this story.
Thank you for witnessing Nana and Zayne's journey from death realm to domestic bliss. From specimens to parents. From surviving to living.
May you find your own strawberry candies. Your own person who chooses you three times. Your own chaos family that loves you exactly as you are.
May you survive your Avalon. Build your future. Climb your fountains.
And may you—always, always—choose hope.
With love,
Nana, Zayne, Lizzie, and everyone who survived
