Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: FIRST SIGHTING

October 11th 2018; Manchester, England.

I have always heard of guardian angels from my granny, but I never believed her. The idea of a winged person watching my every move was too similar to that of the creepy "Santa Claus." It didn't stop my granny from always talking about him whenever we stopped to visit. In fact, whenever we visited her, she always read to me and my brother Andrew a chapter of the Bible. I always forgot it as soon as I left her home, but I won't forget the joy on her face whenever she saw how intently we were listening. For some reason, I remembered today's reading; it was Romans chapter 8, written by this guy called Paul. I did not understand any of it, but I could tell it was very serious.

"Mom, they're too young to get any of that." My mom pointed out after looking at our confused faces.

"Hmm, I suppose you're right, honey. My apologies." My granny replied while putting the Bible down.

"Well then, would you two like to hear another story about Grandpa when he was a young soldier?" Andrew and I nodded. Grandpa was such a cool person, and it's a shame I never got to talk to him much but he still lives on in granny.

"Please tell us about the one where he landed in France." Andrew pleaded with a gleeful smile.

"Okay, okay, if you insist." She began retelling us the story of D-Day. A few hours went by and it was evening. Noticing the orange hue outside, my granny paused her story; "Oh my, it's already getting quite late and you boys must be hungry."

My mom then popped out of kitchen, carrying bowls of curry mixed with potatoes.

"You talked their ear off for so long that they didn't even notice I was cooking." Mom then handed us our bowls while still scolding granny.

Andrew began slurping on the curry while mom continued berating granny, and that's when I saw a person sat on the chair in front of me. She sat with her legs crossed over while just staring into nothing; I thought I was hallucinating, so I rubbed my eyes, and when I was done, the woman was gone. It seemed like no one saw her, so I kept quiet about it.

We said our goodbyes to granny, and started walking to the bus stop.

Mom suddenly stopped and, then grabbed me by my shoulders, and she looked frightened.

"Michael, whatever you do, never respond to that woman you just saw." She said while shaking.

"Mom, y-you saw her too?" I asked while trying to hide my sudden fear. I was at least relieved to know that someone else saw that woman, but the way Mom spoke about her terrified me.

"Yes, I did, but please ignore her presence; she's not human."

"My, what a rude thing to say about an old friend." A voice from behind spoke up.

I turned to see who it was and it was that woman from before only this time I could her fully. She had blood red hair and pink ringed eyes with a pale white skin which were glaringly inhuman features. My mom stepped in front of me and Andrew who had fallen asleep.

"What do you want?" My mom asked harshly

"The boy, he will be a problem for my boss in the future; we can't have that." The pale woman responded. I looked around to see if the bus was coming but to my surprise, it seemed like everywhere around us was not moving at all.

"You can't have my kids, none of them will be yours." My mom continued to shield me away from the woman's gaze.

"Well, I can always come back, in more ways than one, after all I did the same to you." the pale woman said but I couldn't make out what expression she had on her face but I do know that what she said made my mom start shaking again.

I didn't know much by then but I knew that this woman or whatever she claimed to be was nothing good and we had to leave because I was scared and my mother was very scared as well. I dragged her sleeve as I hid behind her and suddenly a bright light shone behind the pale woman.

"GET AWAY FROM THE CHILD!!!" the voice yelled.

The woman looked at my mom one last time and then vanished. As soon as the woman and the light left, my mum hugged me tightly. I could feel her tears on my back as she held me, I was also about to cry when Andrew opened his eyes and he looked at us with a puzzled expression. Honestly, I don't know I can ever tell him about this moment without crying.

The horn of the bus driver interrupted our moment and we all headed home where my dad was sat in the living room waiting for us with all smiles and love.

His warm expression however turned grim when he saw mom's eyes, seems like he might also know about the pale woman.

"Michael, I would like talk to mom alone, is that okay?"

I nodded and went up to my room to hopefully wake up and realize that today was not real.

The living room

"She actually came for Michael?" my husband yelled

"Yes, she said that he was going to be a problem for her boss." I replied

It has been so long since I had an encounter with that demon, I am so terrified and every fibre of my body is filled with fear. If not for that light that saved us, she would have taken Michael to God knows where.

I can't lose another kid to her, not this time; I began to pray while sweat poured from me.
