Chapter 3 - 3 A ring-wrapped fire hydrant and a Z-Gen Alpha

The elevator dinged and I rushed out immediately the doors cracked open.

The air outside was harsh with winter just around the corner. One of the downsides of being my kind was that, whatever physical sensation others felt, I felt it a thousand times worse.

So of course, being out in this temperature wasn't much of a joyride. It didn't help that I was barely wearing any proper clothing underneath my leather coat.

I tapped open the 'Cars' app on my phone, typing in my destination. I waited as the app loaded.

'Sorry…All Cars are busy in your area.'

Fuck.

Reload! reload! reload! reload! reload!

I aggressively taped on the green button at the bottom of the screen.

My teeth chattered as a small breeze whizzed by. I pulled the coat tighter around my body, rubbing my hands together for frictional heat.

My only option was to hail a cab. That would be easy, except, my workplace was located in a very high end area, which meant that public transport was close to nonexistent.

Nonetheless, I took quick strides to the side of the road to try my luck. If worst comes to worst, I'll just call Xueya's dad to pick me up.

I stood at the side of the road for what felt like ages. Finally, I decided to give up. I pulled out my phone to call Xueya.

Just then, a black luxury car skidded with a loud screech on the main road. Even though it was quite a distance from me, I couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen.

For the next few moments, it swerved from left to right, drawing closer and closer. And I stood in my spot, still unsure where to move to.

Before I could even register it, bright headlights blasted my eyes with photons, causing me a few seconds of blindness.

It was all so sudden. One moment, I was standing by the road looking for a car, and the next, I was leaping out of the way to preserve my life.

I landed hard on my backside, the pain from contact shaking me to my core. My eyes stung with tears, but I blinked it all away.

This was not the time for weakness. Instead, I turned it all into rage.

I pushed myself off the ground. My palms were scratched raw, stinging like hell as they met the chill air, but all that was at the back of my mind.

All I could think about as I charged toward the car —which was wrapped around the fire hydrant I was standing by a few seconds ago loke a ring on a finger— was how I hated drunk drivers more than anything.

"Fucking Lunatic! Which fucking brain-dead bastard approved your driver's license ?! Trying to add murder to your probably already ugly recor—"

The car door cracked open and I froze.

His rich scent wafted through my nostrils, and my heart began to race.

The raw choking dominance. The threat of unimaginable danger. I suddenly wasn't so daring anymore.

I took a few staggered steps back, my flight defense mode starting to kick in.

His head poked out the driver's door and I inhaled sharply. It was all I could do to keep from falling off my suddenly wobbling knees.

"It's fear,It's fear," I told myself

Then his whole body slid out. Finally, his eyes met mine and I swallowed.

Still think it's only fear? My inner voice chided.

If ethereal was a person, this would be him.

He stood dauntingly tall. At least 6ft5. Did men that tall even exist in this country?

His chest heaved, and the two opened buttons of his shirt gave a peek of what was underneath. I had to internally slap myself to avert my gaze.

A Z-Gen Alpha in his full glory.

His breath came out in growls. Something was wrong. I noticed how dazed out his eyes looked, like he was barely in control of his body.

It was almost as if he was in his… Then the first blast of pheromones shot out of his body.

I staggered backwards, choking from the almost lethal amount I had inhaled.

I felt a pressure pushing down on me, on my body, my mind, every part of my human system, forcing me to submit.

Alarms went off loudly in my mind,Everything in me screamed for me to get out of there. But… I still stood unmoving.

I was scared.

Scared that any sudden movement from me would trigger him to pounce.

I had worked so hard to get this far. I wasn't going to let a small slip shatter my years of hard efforts.

I rushed through my brain, trying to look for any idea that could get me out of this.

Another wave of pheromones rushed toward me, tackling me off my feet.

"Please…" I coughed out, I tried to reason with the Alpha who seemed far out of his mind.

What dumb Z-gen Alpha goes driving on his rut?

Alarms began to sound in my mind as bile rose up my throat. The beginning of the end.

I held my breath in an attempt to stop myself from inhaling the toxins, but that offered no help against the ones seeping through my skin.

I had to get out of here if there was any chance of making it out alive.

Now, when it came to luck, it had been long established that I was down on it. But I didn't know how much of a grudge the universe or whoever was in control of life held against me until this moment. When the Alpha decided to take a heavy step toward me.

Yeah fuck!
