Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Ashikaga Sensei's Ambition

Chapter 16: Ashikaga Sensei's Ambition

What Kaguya had not expected was that the moment she stood up, before she even had time to walk toward the back door, Asagiri suddenly quickened his pace and stepped out first.

The boy waiting at the door immediately seized the moment. He lowered his head, pretended to walk forward, and timed it perfectly. He intended to bump into Asagiri and, acting as if it were an accident, spill the entire cup of water onto him.

"Bang."

A muffled sound echoed, but the scene Kaguya anticipated did not happen at all.

Instead, the boy was the one who cried out in pain. He was knocked back as if he had walked into a wall. Asagiri looked genuinely surprised, reached out as if to help him up, and coincidentally grabbed the boy's wrist—the wrist holding the cup.

With a small twist of motion, Asagiri redirected the boy's own hand and poured the entire cup of water onto him.

Then he let go. The boy lost balance and collapsed onto the floor, completely soaked from head to toe, looking utterly miserable.

Asagiri sighed seriously.

"Oh dear. Student, you really need to watch where you're going. And you didn't even tighten your cup. It's a good thing you bumped into me. If you had splashed someone else, you would have needed to apologize. Now you don't have to apologize, so shouldn't you thank me instead?"

Even Kaguya, who was skilled at hiding her emotions, almost burst out laughing.

She clearly saw Asagiri prepare before leaving the classroom. He had lowered his center of gravity like a sprinter, obviously ready to collide. Otherwise, how could he have knocked down a boy that easily?

And the water splash was clearly deliberate.

It was obvious he had noticed the setup long ago and simply played along.

But what truly surprised Kaguya was not the clever counter. It was his reflexes—the speed and fluidity of his movement were exceptional even by her standards.

So there was such a capable newcomer among this year's students…

"You… you…"

"Not even a word of thanks?"

Asagiri stepped closer with a smile and spoke softly.

"How rude."

"Utsunomiya."

A calm voice cut through the tension. Miwa Ashikaga, the homeroom teacher of Class A, approached.

She first glanced at the boy from another class, still sitting on the floor, drenched and humiliated. Then her gaze shifted to Asagiri.

"Come to the office with me." Her tone was flat, unreadable.

"Okay."

Asagiri nodded lightly, completely unbothered, and walked with Ashikaga toward the far end of the corridor.

Behind them, students whispered among themselves, and the boy who failed his petty scheme sat trembling with humiliation.

"Damn it… next time… next time I'll definitely…"

"I advise you not to entertain such thoughts."

The boy froze. When he raised his head, he found a pair of cold red eyes staring down at him.

"Kaguya… Shinomiya…"

"I don't care about your so called pride as specialized course students or whatever childish reason you had," she said quietly. "But this is my classroom. Do not do anything that will inconvenience me. Understand?"

"I… I understand."

Among all the students of Shuchiin Academy, Kaguya was among the few who stood at the top. Not only because she was the eldest daughter of the Shinomiya Family, but also because the chairman of Shuchiin Academy was Oko Shinomiya.

"Good. As long as you understand."

Kaguya gave a small nod, showed a faint smile, and walked toward the opposite end of the corridor.

Her hand brushed against the smartphone in her pocket. A complex light flickered in her red eyes.

"Right now… I don't have the time to deal with such boring matters…" she whispered, almost inaudibly.

...

On the other side, Asagiri had just stepped into the corridor with Ashikaga when he ran into Asuna, who had been looking for him.

Seeing him walking beside the teacher, she froze for a second, unsure if she should approach.

"Utsunomiya… um, is now a good time?"

"It's not a matter of convenience," Asagiri replied with a smile. "Ashikaga sensei wants to talk to me about something."

Then he turned to the teacher.

"Ashikaga sensei, this is someone I know. Is it alright if she comes with me?"

Ashikaga replied calmly, "Yes. Do as you like."

"Then come along, Asuna."

Asuna hesitated but followed. She wanted to discuss the dungeon with him, but somehow she was now being brought to the teacher's office too.

As for why Asagiri was being called in…

Well, during the break, word had already spread through the entire high school and even the junior high division. Everyone had heard that among this year's new students in Class A, there was one who had outstanding looks, an aggressive personality, and extraordinary kazoo playing skills.

Becoming famous across the entire school on the first day… Asuna could only feel awe.

But what she cared about even more was something else.

Asagiri, like her, was a mixed school student who had only entered today.

A mixed school student… in Class A?

That alone was unbelievable.

When they entered Ashikaga sensei's office, Asuna felt stunned.

This was not the shared office she expected, with multiple desks grouped together. Instead, the room looked more like a president's office in a large company.

A black leather sofa.

A polished wooden desk.

A space far too luxurious for a normal teacher.

"It seems Ashikaga sensei… is not simple at all…"

While Asuna was thinking this, Ashikaga had already taken a seat behind the desk and gestured toward the sofa.

"Sit. Would you like something to drink? Black tea, coffee, or a beverage?"

Asagiri sat down without hesitation, completely unfazed.

"No need. I have something else to do later, so let's be quick. I don't want to waste time."
