Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Slave Trade?

Apart from Queen Angelie, almost no one knew that White Night was the Black Night Knight.

Or rather, to most commoners the name White Night itself meant nothing.

Unlike the famous Black Night Knight, the name White Night was not actually widely known.

Aside from a few of White Night's friends and the people in the palace, probably only the nobles of the Royal Capital had vaguely heard of the name, knowing that Her Majesty the Queen doted on this White Night, and that was all.

After all, Angelie did not like White Night appearing in public, so when White Night was active outside the palace, she either used her identity as a Black Night Knight or simply wore a mask and used a fake identity.

But even so, Angelie's supervision of White Night became increasingly strict.

In the past, she at least allowed White Night to lead the Knight Order as a Black Night Knight, but in the last six months, Angelie had almost forbidden White Night from leaving the palace, only allowing her to stay inside and accompany her.

Looking at it this way, the words of the middle-aged man sitting nearby seemed correct.

"Lord Black Night Knight is actually the Queen's forbidden..."

The breakfast stall owner hurriedly covered his mouth, looked around, then leaned closer to the middle-aged man and whispered.

"That's so explosive, is the source reliable?"

"Whether others believe it or not, I believe it anyway."

The middle-aged man spread his hands.

"At least it's much more plausible than 'retiring to the countryside' or 'suspicious assassination', isn't it?"

Shameful, it was truly too shameful. White Night hadn't expected that listening to two greasy middle-aged men chatting would be so embarrassing; so this was how external rumors described her and Angelie.

It would have been fine if it were false, but unfortunately, the facts and the rumors were actually quite close.

White Night couldn't take it anymore. She finished her noodles in a few bites and prepared to leave. If she listened to any more rumors about herself, she might die of embarrassment.

"Speaking of which, have you heard about the 'noble slave trade'?"

White Night, who was just about to leave, was slightly stunned upon hearing the man's words and actually stopped again.

Slave trade! What slave trade? Ever since Angelie ascended the throne as Queen, the Holy Radiance Empire had abolished slavery and banned human trafficking. Now that so many years had passed, where did this talk of a slave trade come from?

"I actually did hear about that. I have a friend who works in a noble's house. His master told him about it; it's at a flower market in the south of the city, right?"

"Exactly."

The middle-aged man nodded and lowered his voice.

"Since the new law explicitly stated that selling slaves is forbidden, this business of buying and selling people had quieted down for many years. But who would have thought that some nobles couldn't restrain themselves and have recently started secretly trading female slaves again."

"Tsk, female slaves! That's a major crime. Is there no one who dares to report these nobles?"

"Who would report them? Would you dare to report them?"

The middle-aged man curled his lip in disdain.

"Can you see the Queen directly? Or can you guarantee that the people receiving the report aren't birds of a feather with those nobles? I don't care if others dare; I certainly don't."

"Sigh~ Her Majesty the Queen must not know about this right now, otherwise she would definitely deal harshly with those damn nobles!"

The two were lamenting when someone suddenly stepped forward to talk to them.

"Can you tell me more about the slave trade in detail?"

The breakfast stall owner and the middle-aged man turned around in confusion, only to see a Silver-haired Girl.

The girl's expression was cold. Although she had a beautiful face that was hard to describe in words, the two could see that she was in a bad mood.

"Little Girl, this isn't something you can get involved in. You'd better not..."

Before the middle-aged man could finish his sentence, the girl casually threw out two brand-new gold coins.

"Tell me everything you know, and these two gold coins are yours."

"These, these are gold coins!!!"

The two were startled.

One must know that for commoners, gold coins were not common; they generally used copper and silver coins in their daily lives.

One hundred copper coins equaled one silver coin, and only one hundred silver coins could be exchanged for one gold coin.

The breakfast stall owner's meat buns only sold for one copper coin. The two gold coins in front of them could buy exactly twenty thousand buns; how could they not be shocked?

"May I ask who you are, Miss..."

The man asked cautiously.

Someone who could casually throw out two gold coins without blinking was definitely not simple.

Moreover, the quality of these two gold coins was different from the gold coins generally circulating in the market; the gold coins the girl threw out were in very new condition.

The surface of the gold coins was as smooth as a mirror; let alone scratches or wear, there wasn't even a speck of dirt, as if they had just been minted.

How could there be such new gold coins? Could they have been taken from the national treasury?

Whatever the reason, the middle-aged man understood that the girl before him definitely had an extraordinary identity.

"You don't need to know who I am; you only need to answer my questions."

The Silver-haired Girl's voice was very pleasant and soft, as comfortable as a feather brushing past.

But the man did not dare to be negligent. Having lived for half a lifetime, if he had no other skills, he definitely had a knack for reading people and things.

The girl in front of him was definitely not someone he could be vague or perfunctory with. If he didn't want to cause trouble, he could only obediently listen to her.

"I can answer your questions, it's just that I don't know much, so it might not satisfy you."

The man unconsciously used honorifics for White Night, holding the gold coins in both hands and presenting them to her, as if saying the information he provided wasn't worth so many gold coins.

"It's fine, just say what you know."

White Night seemed to see the man's nervousness, and her tone became even gentler.

"Keep the gold coins. If you can provide any valuable information, I will reward you further."

"As you command."
