"How many cauldrons do you need?" he enquired, pulling a face as he opened a cupboard under a workbench, and several of the pewter vessels toppled out.

"It may have escaped your notice, but this is a potions classroom," Snape pointed out, looking up from his desk, where he was grading the last of the papers, no doubt ruining lives with his latest scathing remarks.

Discarding the mangled cauldron, Harry stacked the rest back inside the cupboard and shut the door quickly before another disaster ensued, before turning his attention to what Snape was doing.

"Whose essays are you marking? Are they ours? Did you read mine yet? Was it any good? Or did I at least do better than Ron?" he asked, going to stand beside the older man.

"Desist," Snape ordered, though there was no malice in his tone. "Second year papers have already been graded. These are first year attempts at explaining the ingredients and properties of the Forgetfulness Potion. Though judging by what I have been subjected to thus far, none of them need consume the potion anytime soon, since it is apparent they all forgot to engage their brains ahead of putting quill to parchment."
