Chapter 3 - Sovereign’s Blood

He opened his eyes and he realized he was in a different dimension. A different world. His mind wandered and he could not control his body. He heard screams, but he chose to ignore them. The sight he saw was a vast red sea with nothing but a red sun above it. The light from the sun was so bright, but for him, it is normal, almost comforting him.

"What am I?" he asked himself while looking at his palm. He stood still, nothing he could do but to wait. He wondered why he felt different. Not only that, but he knew his body right now was just his imagination and his real body was out there, in a different dimension than he is now.

"Captain, captain" the same words calling him from the beginning, a voice that he could not recognize.

"Waking up Captain!" The desperation voices were getting stronger and louder.

"What am I?" he still ignored the scream and continued to question himself. He was lost in his thoughts, the body was no longer his, and his former self started to fade. His growing body and growing spirit has engulfed him completely and left him alone inside the shadow. He refused to escape.

He seems to remember all the things he has done before, the time when he was just a child embraced by his parents, the time when he got older and started high school and then the time when he got his first job. His memories were scattered around the red sea and the light from the red sun burning even hotter.

"Captain" the voice keeps screaming

"Shut up!" he screamed, "Stop calling me" His memories slowly disappeared the longer he continued to wait. He forgot his name a long time ago. Soon he would forget about himself too and his purpose.

"Wake up, Kaine", a voice so gentle but intense, surprised him. As soon as he heard the voice, his world started to change. His body started to decay, and the world he was in crumbled to pieces.

Kaine opened his eyes, and what he saw in front of his eyes was his underlings were beaten up badly and were lying down on the training ground. Kaine felt his fists were held, and what he saw was Leon, his vice captain. Leon was holding his captain's hands tightly to avoid any casualties.

"What are you doing?" Kaine asked.

"You are awake?" Leon said.

Kaine knew right away what happened was his fault, he had lost his control. He beat all of them, and Leon was no exception. His fist has brought them to the ground. He lost control for almost an hour. He was far too deep in his concentration.

Leon seeing his captain regain consciousness was a relief. He was not sure on how long he could stop his captain. He slowly let go of Kaine's hand.

"I'm sorry" Kaine said, he knew what happened, he lost his control and his squad was destroyed when they tried to stop him. The memory of the fight flooded in his brain. He first attacked the five of the Sentinels in front of him, after that, he turned his gaze to others and proceeded to march at them. The other Sentinels tried to bring him down without killing him, but they failed. Their strength could not be compared to his. The only one who can parry his attack was Leon. They fought for a few minutes, and he was swarmed by many Sentinels but still able to blow them away.

"You were really incredible, captain," Leon said, and his words were agreed by others.

"You beat all of us, but you never tried to kill us, even when you lost control, you still think of us as your comrade"

Kaine was surprised, he didn't expect this response. He was sure his squad would be mad at him, deserted him and joined another squad. He was perplexed with their attitude, the six months they were together made them close.

For his underlings, their captain was different from them and other captains. Kaine looks like a deity to them, the one who shined brighter than others. His presence alone warmed their hearts. In order to adapt to being Sentinel, they have to suffer mental breakdown and in a confused state. With Kaine, on their side and their leader, the suffering went away in an instant when they were with him.

The training that led to Kaine losing his control was over, and everyone was ordered to rest and prepared for their first battle. Everyone was silent about the incident and kept the secret from others as they refused to cause trouble, and they were loyal to Kaine. However, for Kaine, the incident opened his eyes. He was still unable to control his power and when he concentrated his power grew even stronger and made him lose himself.

Time seems to move slower than before, tomorrow needs to come sooner. Kaine was nervous, but his feelings were not shared by others. His comrades seem to be relaxed and calm.

"They were growing," said Kaine, there was a loneliness in his voice

"What are you saying, captain?" Leon asked. He was beside Kaine all the time. He was his guard and also his vice captain.

"You all seem to be different now, I know I'm different too, but I feel something strange" said Kaine.

"You are different, Captain" Leon fell silent for a while. He stared at the white wall and thought about his next words.

"You are more than us, we all realized that when we first met you, and we all knew that before you beat us down" Leon laughed.

"We are soldiers, but you are a ruler. A ruler must have emotions soldiers don't," he smirked a little.

Kaine felt calmer after hearing that. He was grateful to have good comrades, people he could truly call friends. His old life was nothing but a normal life. For his whole life, he rushed his life. The more he rushed, the more late he felt, and every time his chance slipped away.

"Called the squad here," muttered Kaine to Leon.

Kaine's squad felt their days were in a cycle, they were called before, and now they were being called again.

"Do we have to do training again?" one of them asked

"I don't know too, but it seems important"

They gathered together in their battle suits as they were ready for everything. They waited for their captain's order.

What appeared before them was Leon. Leon stood on the podium, looking at his comrade with a serious gaze. "We have our first mission tomorrow," said Leon.

"The higher up ordered us to deter a rebellion" Leon announced. He stopped for a moment and waited for a reaction. "We were ordered to capture the rebels, but if they were against us, we were allowed to kill them

"Yes Sir!" the collected voice replied. No objections from them.

Leon slowly stood back, and the others were ready for their captain's order. Kaine walked from the crowd to the podium. No one realized he was there, among them. He stood tall on the podium, and his aura shrouded the room.

"As Leon said, we were tasked for our first mission. The rebellion is nothing but a small step for us. We would become more than now. No one was allowed to fail in the first mission." Kaine finished his speech. He has nothing more to say. He believed in his squad. "Our fight just started"
